It is a gorgeous bit of photo etch, its the Paragrafix set.

Over the last few days I have been thinking of doing something else to this, well it combines with something else just making it better BigGrin Is that cryptic enough for you BigGrin It will basically involve e learning a completely new skill Confused I will leave you with that for now until my package arrives then will post a massive clue.

In the meantime I have continued to take a brake from notching all the armour plating, it really is very boring! so I decided I would start preparing the inspection pits and other sub assemblies, some only needed clean up and others needed construction, the ones that needed to be constructed are photgraphed with the instructions.

There is a lot of tiny, fiddly and very delicate parts that need to be trimmed, my thumb looks like I have been self harming due to the brand new blade and have drawn blood a couple of times already Crying

The latest addition to this project, this is what I was being so cryptic about.

For those that are not aware this is an Arduino board "Arduino is a tool for making computers that can sense and control more of the physical world than your desktop computer. It's an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple microcontroller board, and a development environment for writing software for the board."

I can use this to progam another chip that willl control varies items, servos, light sensors, LEDs, relays, other sensors etc..

After reading about this I had some more ideas for this build, I wont go into to much detail yet as I still need to learn how to use it, this basically will involve learning a bit of the promgramming language C.

I have no idea if this will pan out or if this will end up on ebay, time will tell Unsure

Just a small update, things have been getting in the way of building such as working nights and chest infection, I thought I had got rid of getting a chest infection since I stopped smoking 352 days ago (I have an app LOL). It also doesnt help that my work bench is in the garage and its been a little nippy out there recently.

Anyway enough ramblings, her are the pictures of the parts I have been working on, these will all go around the sides when the upper and lower hull parts are put together. Hopefully Im not tempting fate but nothing has been devoured by the carpet, garage floor in my case, monster

Thanks Dan

Lots and lots of tiny parts to handle Blink

I have also just realied that the little triangle things in picture 2 that are over hanging the edge have been glued on the wrong way round Mad, they shouldnt be hanging over the edge and need rotating 180 degrees, oh well and easy fix

After correcting my mistake with the little parts mentioned in my last post I thought I would make a start on the landing struts.

There is 7 of these to make, 3 sets of singles and 2 sets of doubles for the rear. All the parts have been cut and cleaned up.

I must admit I was a bit spoilt with the Yamato, I thought that the parts were all flash free with this Falcon kit however although there is very little flash all the small parts do have small bits of it that needed cleaning up, also the seam lines and joins needed sorting which took time as a result after 3 hours I have cleaned up all the parts and finished just the one strut.

Been doing a bit of jumping around in the instructions.

Dish made up

Underside armour notches opened up and inspection pits added, it was slow work doing all those notches

Most of the topside notches now done, just a few more around the outside to do. Dry fit with the dish and turret top. The bit of paper it is on is A3. I should have done a picture on the Build The Millennium Falcon Blue Print for size comparisson, doh

After some advise guys

I went to prime a load of parts today and the primer sort of bubbled in places. I did wash all the parts in the bath with washing up liquid when I get the kit but Im guessing that I didnt clean it properly Confused

On another note I went to apply the decals that came with the paragrafix PE set and have to say they were absolutely terrible. The decal sheet is one big carrier sheet so you have to cut right up to the edge of what you want to apply, whats more they are so delicate that you have to get them spot on straight away as trying to move them around with a soft brush or cotton bud results in all the detail coming off.

My question is does anyone know of any other decals available for the finemolds Falcon that can be used on the paragrafix PE, the only other alternative I have is to use the kit supplied cockpit and decals and find a way of lighting this.

Well after my little set back mentioned above I have given all the parts another really good wash with fairy liquid and scrubbing brush.

All dry and back to my bench I have been racking my brain as to what I am now going to do with regards to lighting the cockpit after the decals from the paragrafix photoetch kit were ruined. I couldnt find another source of decals so I decided to try and work how I could use the lighting panels that came with my lighting kit.

After a long think and getting over a bad case of man flu LOL I oredered a sheet of 1mm plasticard and decided to scratch build a new back wall to which I can mount the lighting panel.

Made good progress until an unfortunate slip put a stop on todays efforts, really proud of what I have achieved as the thought of scratch building terrified me Blink

Back wall, it still has the protective film on thats why it looks funny

Lighting panel and canablised door frame, I will mount a bit of plasticard behind the scratcbuilt wall to bring the door forward

Choice of 2 doors, closed or open

I really like the open door

Nothing like slicing open the end of your finger with a new blade to put a dampner on things

For those of you that followed my Yamato build you will know that I was jumping around all over the place with the instructions, well I'm afraid I'm back at it, sorry LOL

After scratch building a new back wall I actually decided that I would reach out to Paul of Paragrafix about the decals. So after contacting him and telling him how much of a club I was and that I ruined the decals he has kindly offered to send me a free set of replacements ThumpUp

Turns out that there was a small bit of paper in the PE set that advised anyone new to aftermarket decals, I think I qualify there LOL, should coat them first in Testors Decal Bonding Spray or Microscale Liquid Decal Film. With those words of advise ringing in my ear I set about ordering the Microscale film in preperation for the new decals to arrive and attempt 2 Cool

In the meantime I finished the landing struts, very fidly with those little pistons on each leg. I have also chopped off the locating pins that go into the poly bushes, the reason for this is they are very tight and would not be easy to get out, I am going to put tiny magnets on them so I can swap and change between the landing struts and blanking paints.

Main Falon body resting on struts and left to dry over night

While I await the new decals for the cockpit I thought I would greeble up the top mandible area.

44 parts in total, took some time to trim the all off and carefully clean up without losing any.

Remember those spot the difference puzzles, here you go, 44 to find (Actually 39 as 5 will be hidden from view) LOL

Decided I wanted to be able to change between the landing gear and blanking plates a will, they have pins that fit into holes but they are bit tight and a couple snapped trying to take landing gear off again so got these teeny tiny magnets to fit them

More greebles added, its slow work cleaning up all these greebles. I still havent decided yet on the base colour Confused

So new declas arrived and had a 2nd attempt, they do look better than in the photo as they are still wet. They arent perfect as you will see in some areas but when they are dry I will touch up with some paint

Engine grills made up, 4 small PE parts added to each

WOW Dave, that is looking amazing! The open door decal just blew my mind!!!! Drool

I too have the Fine Molds Falcon in my stash.

Would you mind providing a link for the PE and the LED sets? They look like a great upgrade and would be very interested in checking them out.

I'm looking forward to following along and enjoying the build!

Hi Chris

Thanks for the comments. It is a fantastic kit, there is some flash that needs to be trimmed but not much, lots of cleaning up of LOTS of tiny parts.

The open door decal is actually just a lighting panel, I do like lit but now that I did a better job on the Acreation Decals that came with the Paragrfix Photo Etch set, they are very delicate, I think I will go with them.

The Photo Etch set, can be purchased here

The lighting kit is from
Madman Lighting, I have purchased extra LEDS and also have about 100m of fibre optics now too LOL, what I dont use on this I have plans for on the DeAgostini Falcon.

You will also need the clear engine nozzles here or here. I have the 3D printed ones as the resin ones were out of stock when I looked, they are very nice.

These canopy masks will also be very useful if you are going to use the glass.

Check here for the lighting panels if you want to go that route, its the 6th link down under the picture of the box, lots of other info there too.

Hope that helps Cool
