So I am curious what kind of paint does everyone use? Do you have a favorite brand? Do you use an airbrush? Is there a type of paint you stay away from?
I generally use Tamiya paints. I have an airbrush and do use it, but I don't enjoy cleaining the airbrush and sometimes I will choose another paint just to avoid using the airbrush.
I like the Tamiya lacquer paints in the spray cans, especially the glossy paints. These paints smell awful so you do need a spray booth or very well ventilated room. They are also pretty expensive if you have a large model to cover.
I have recently been dabbling with the Citadel paints and Vallejo paints. The Citadel are for brush painting and they come as base colors, layer colors and highlights. These are great for getting a depthlike appearance to the paint and the base colors cover very well and don't leave any brush marks. I am currently building a gunship that is being painted purely with Citadel paints and once finished I will post the pics. The Vallejo paints are similar to the Citadel.Coverage is good although you do need to water them down a touch to avoid brush marks. They also have a range of paints that are prethinned so you can use them in an airbrush.

Ohh, jees. Lifecolor, Tamiya AK Interactive, MIG washes, Masterkit,Vallejo, Testors, SnJ. Pretty much anything that fits what 'm after. I don't have any real paint loyalties. I also use Grumbacher oils was well. Tired, Old, and Cranky!

I started with Tamiya paints through an Airbrush and I find they spray beautifully, they also give a very nice coating when brush painting however it is a lot more work as they still need to thinned and built up in lots of coats.
I have recently been using Vallejo Model Air which also spray beautifully and brush paint nicely too, yet to try model colour although as I understand they are more brush painting specific.

I airbrush Tamiya and Humbrol acrylics. For washes I use Mig. For Mud, sand etc I use the little Tamiya make up kit things. I use Tamiya primer and Humbrol varnish. Finished 3D Printer, RB7, Hummer, Skyrider drone & Combat tank collection http://www.model-space.com/gb/

I've been using Testors brand paints all my life. Have experimented with others a bit but always find myself gravitating back to Testors brand. I've still got a tube of the liquid glue with the metal needle tip they released a long time ago (and don't anymore) that I've had for at least 20+ years.

I began with the good old Humbrol enamels before they thought of acrylics! Used to use almost exclusively Citadel for figure painting but tried the Vallejo Model colour alongside Citadel and Admiralty acrylics on my Messines diorama, found them to be extremely good although as has been said, they do sometimes need a little thinning down (they also dry very fast too!) I used the Model colour thinned down and airbrushed for the tanks and that came out really well. For the Battle of Britain diorama I'm using mainly Revell acrylics (the supplier I had the Vallejo from isn't there anymore!) I'll be trying the Revells in the airbrush later too. Robin First wooden ship: The Grimsby 12 Gun 'Frigate' by Constructo Second: Bounty DelPrado Part Works Third: HMS Victory DelPrado Part Works 1/100 scale Diorama of the Battle of the Brandywine from the American Revolutionary War Diorama of the Battle of New Falkland (unfinished sci-fi), Great War Centenary Diorama of the Messines Ridge Assault Index for the Victory diary is on page 1

I do youse Tamiya paints but they are not my preference, especially for brush painting as the paint drys very quickly so under brush it can go grainy but they do thin well, even with just water. My fave brand is Vallejo, they really are top quality and very easy to use under push you can thin with water easily so great for making washes. and the Vallejo Air range pre thinned for the airbrush are the best airbrush paints in my opinion. The JoTika Admiralty paints are great for wooden ship builders the finish and colour match is excellent, they behave well under brush but have not tried them with my airbrush. I do still love the Humbrol paints, they are very flexible I do not tend to use them with my airbrush but they are great for tiny detail and you can mix them together really well I generally find AK produce the best weathering products, washes and so on, there new true metal product is fantastic. there are two brands I will not touch, life colour I have found difficult to work with, although I do no modellers that swear by the dam stuff and Zero paints I believe actually made by satain to destroy airbrushes I had a nightmare trying to clean that stuff out of my airbrush, but again some car modellers won't use any other brand finally, and sadly currently missed White Ensign Models paints I always found exceptional for colour match although sometimes a bit temperamental to thin.
