Hi Jonny Just looked in at your diary for the first time and must say I'm impressed with your planking...it looks really good... I'm having a bit of bother tapering the planks at the forward end - mainly what goes where, so I was happy to come across your post #93 (3rd photo) which gives excellent pointers!! How do you hold the plank steady when you are planing it? I have a little jig set up in a vice on the workbench in the garage - and I find that difficult enough, but I'm still on a steep learning curve and have picked up a lot from this forum. Regards JohnP

Regards JohnP Hi there John...Thanks for your very kind comments..they are more than welcome, even to us that have built more than a few models of this scale...And are still learning!! lol. As for steadying the planks while planing? I didn't use any jig just gripping the plank with my fingers firmly on the work surface. I used a Rolson mini plane and marked out the line of the proposed taper (along its length) say.from mid plank to end with a pencil and worked on the taper above that line..Once I had obtained the required shape I bent the plank using the plier type plank bender to fit the place that it was intended to be placed..I have found it useful to over-bend the plank just a touch to prevent it springing away from its fastening point as I had noticed happen with the very springy bamboo planks. Hope this helps mate and that you are enjoying your build. Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

Hi there Ian...Thanks for your very welcome comment. The build is on temporary hold for a short while longer until I can sit outside to do some sanding on her as I can not carry out that particular task indoors..dust and health reasons. I am very anxious and really looking forward to cracking on with Sovereign as soon as possible and continuing my build diary...Thanks again mate. Jonny Hope all is well with you. Really hoping for some improvement to the weather. While we escaped any snow this year the winds have been aweful. So damaging always fills me with fear. Hope you manage to get back to your build soon and look forward to seeing your progress. Happy Modelling
