Hi Everyone

For those following the saga of the stern-post, problem solved...BigGrin

I decided to make a new one and after two attempts the 3rd prototype is shown below "the real thing" in the photo below. It fits perfectly in the stern slot and the difference in size can clearly be seen...Cool Cool

I would be interested to know if anyone else comes across the same problem.BigGrin

Regards to All

Great to hear you have the problem resolved John, nicely done....Cool Cool .. Thing about these kits is they have to be built, you cannot just simply glue the pieces together, you have to identify and fix potential problems. In this instance you have done this very well....Cool Cool

Hi Alan

Thank you for the compliment and the advice...BigGrin
Yes I just assumed that a piece of kit with a designated part number would be more precise both in shape and dimension...another lesson learned...BigGrin BigGrin

I shall be more aware from now on and check all designated parts well in advance ...Cool Cool

Hi Everyone
Not a lot of progress for the month of Feb 2015:

Still working through issue 37 - installation of the white planks - which I feel are more awkward in some respects than the bamboo planks, as the full length ones tend to want to lift by the edges, especially on the curved areas of the hull...Blink
Some of the photos below show some solutions to the problems...Cool
Different solutions for different areas of the hull...Cool

Just a few more planks to completion, then to tidy up under the transom.

I have up to issue 51 now so plenty of work in the offing...BigGrin BigGrin

Regards and happy building to all...BigGrin

She's looking good John, nicely done...Cool Cool... Will admit, that area around the transom also gave me problem, it is a very tricky area to get just right.... Cool .. Look forward to seeing the hull finally planked.... Cool Cool

Lovely job there John, nice clean lines. Problems help us to be stronger for the next time round. Well done.

John, I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with your build progress, especially how you worked through and resolved your stern post issues.

Each individual build seems to have its own unique aspects that require more attention. A credit to you for sharing these and how you have resolved the problems along the way.

Amazing work.

Hi Everyone

Here following is my progress for March 2015...Cool

week 1
Tidied up white planks under transom...Cool
Completed installation of White planks...Cool
Installed transom panel and Stern gallery decks...Cool

week 2
Completed fitting of brown planks to hull...Cool
Prow and keel plates fitted...Cool
Stern post fitted...Cool
Freeboard painted black both sides...Cool

week 3
Hull painted in accordance with Issues 39 and 40, using a number 4 brush as I don't have one of those air thingies...Cool Painted 4 coats of each colour to get that solid look. I am a bit concerned the red and white looks a bit bright and vivid but hopefully this effect will be a little more subdued by the addition of future fittings and accoutrements...Cool
Painted black and fitted gunwales starboard side only...Cool

week 4
Painted and fitted gunport linings to the Starboard side only... all the port bottom edges first, then inverted the ship and did all the top edges - followed by all the side edges...Cool Initially lost a few pieces forever by dropping them inside the hull, but once a Modus Opperandi was worked out things went
quite smoothly...BigGrin

Happy Building to All

JohnP

HI John, BigGrin

Very impressive. Cool

Looking really good and the encapsulated nuts for the stand are working well. I`ve built them into my sots build, but have yet to make the stand.

Had thought of the possibility of making a pivoting / swinging base to tilt the hull to make working easier. What do you think?

Keep up the good work. Cool Cool
