BigGrin Mornin' Folks
Browsing ebay over the Xmas period i came across Hachete's partwork "Build the Bismark" all 140 issues Drool unopenedDrool

A deal was struck and completed and i recieved the goodies in good time

Cool I wisely decided not to start the build until after the Hogmany celebrationsBlushing

During this time i opened all the issues and only found one setback
Crying One of the antiaircraft guns moulding was not complete

A search for back issues on ebay was not successful for the one issue i required

But i did come across someone who was selling spares and one of the photos showed the items i required.

So now i have a complete kit and spare decking and plastic fittings

The parts are the usual ply and various types of wood for the hull and superstructure and main gun frames etc

Brass is used for superstructure/main guns walls

Bored There is a lot of plastic parts which at first glance i thought was a bit naff (Deags Yamato/Akagi are metal)

But on reflection once painted who can tell what material they are made off......but mainly.. as the model can be converted to R/C i have convinced myself the main reason is to keep the weight down to prevent her becoming top heavy

BigGrin Hi Allan thanks for lookin' in

Despite this partwork ending a few years ago the Bissie seems to pop up on ebay on a regular basis...and a great bargain can be made

As this model has mouldings for the pointy end and the bow it can be a good intro to planking the hull as no drastic bending off planks at he ends

BigGrin On with the build....Drool wanna do the big gunsDrool but

Despite the parts being several years old there does not seem to be any warps on the flat keel but it is not as tight a fit as expected allowing slight movement

So using a straight line on the build board and dry fitting the frames and supports out comes the glue

BigGrin Thanks for comments guys

@ARPurchase...i am humming and hawing over conversion to R/C

LOLFirstly i will need to make sure my build is suitable to be seen in daylight

My other issue is that at the moment the instructions say that the middle deck is removable for access..

Confused Will that mean that the deck planking will have a noticable gap straight across the deck at those two points

Cool Am thinking that access may be available by removing the superstructure parts instead

Cool Food for thought

Anyhoos no sign of the big guns yet...onwards with the frames
They all seem to square up nicely together

BigGrin Mornin' Folks....Happy Easter

Crying Time to body swerve the planking and start the big guns mmmmmm

Confused The instructions for planking tells me to lay the planks parrallel to one another not staggered like we are used to

I almost swayed from the instructions and stagger the planking .......
but realised this is how the designers want us to do it.....

Huh Where the ends of the planks rest the frames are twice as thick
Huh The inside of the hull is to be covered in gauze and glue
Huh The 2nd planking is staggered

A problem did arrive several strips down which you can see in the picture

I felt too much effort was require in order for the plank to be pinned and glued to the previous laid plank

Letting it lie naturally leaves a gap to be filled....but there is no space on the frame on which the ends can rest

Maybe it would not matter as the inside is going to be strengthened and an outer layer of planks will be added later

Tapering both ends of the plank seems to have resolve this issue as i can now lay the plank against the previous laid one without much effort and the next plank requires no adjustment

BigGrin Woo HooLaugh

BigGrin Coming together nicely, shaping the plank is the best way to solve that little problem you could also have planked around it letting the upper planks lie as they want and then filling the gap left with a shaped plank.Cool

Hi Alan
My purchase was pick up only as well

A courier picked it up from the seller way down south at 0900
Picked it up at my local PO (spar shop)next day
Lady said it had been delivered previous PM

Drool All 140 issues in a taped up cardboard box
Only cost About a tenner via online courier service

Might be to your advantage to pm the seller and ask if a pick up from a courier is acceptable

Hi Budgie, it's looking good. I started the same build when it came out as a part work here in South Africa. I have done the first planking of the hull and did some steaming to get the bends correct. It is now on the back burner due having built a rc PT boat and I am now busy with the final stages of my hydroplane. Enjoy the build.
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop

Looking Excellent there Stuart Drool , very Jealous as I would have loved to have the bizzy next to my Hood. I'm looking at the Trumpeter Bizzy now as its hit and miss if hatchette one turns up on ebay.
On the bench

Down side is seller will not post but sure will allow a courier to pick up

Cool How hard is it to shove all the issues in a cardboard box and stick a sheet of paper with address on it

http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...amp;hash=item2c9924a9b4

ps i have no ties with the sellerLOL

Drool Just a great bargain maybe had for someone to enjoyDrool
