After reading this and after due consideration I think once I get to the planking stage of my build I will remove the pins after the glue is completely dry and fill the holes with a mix of fine sawdust and dilute PVA adhesive, wait for this to dry and then sand it flush with the planks. I reckon this might avoid paint seepage holes, however I could be wrong and creating more work for myself (so what's new my brain cries).

Hi Kev,

Another option would be to use pushpins like the type used for notice boards to hold the planks in place until set, that way you could do away with the brass pins and not have to fill in later?

Tom

Thanks Colin, because I was hunting high and low for those particular clips including ages in the cavernous Staples warehouse but nothing looked like your clips...I was in my local hardware store where he was selling those clips for 10p each...I had to ask you first before I bought any of them and started vandalising them LOL ...thanks again mate, your a gem...ThumpUp

Hi Tom,

I did consider that option briefly, but in my experience those pushpins bend very easily. Also I think the slight difference in texture and appearance (such as it will be) will give the impression of the nails used in the planking in the real ship, then again I might just be deluding myself Confused LOL

Hi Magpie,
Question for you. What is 'Alphatic glue' and where can we purchase it?
I'm going for a natural finish and would prefer not to use the pins.
Thanks
