It looks fantastic Ken, I have never done anything like gilding before but it certainly looks like you are doing a great job with it.

I really hope you dont ruin it as like you say it will be a beautiful ship once completed Cool

Hi all here is a bit of an update. I have a big problem with this kit and dont know how much further I can go with it. there is supposed to be 2 sprues number 17 and 2 number 18 but there is only 1 of each, I have emailed Heller and asked for the missing sprues to be sent but have no idea what their customer service is like I'm hopeing they will send them as the kit is useless without them and I will have to bin it otherwise. so will do what I can and hope they will send the parts sooner rather than later.

hi all no reply yet, I have emailed twice and get an automated message saying we've received your message and will reply as soon as we can.
Yes still enjoying the guilding, the instructions on the other hand, not so much. How they can think one page of English instructions is enough for a model as complex as this beggars belief, when every page of the 17 other pages has written french instructions.

Hi KP,
Quite a special build you've got yourself there, I love what you're doing with the guilding work. Shame about the instructions, but just a thought on them, is there a way to scan them into your PC and run a translation programme? (Don't know if that's possible, my knowledge of PC software is very limited)
Happy building
David

I've been told you can translate it through outlook, will have to look into that.
I am having all sorts of problems getting rid of the loose flakey bits that you just cant seem to brush off, so I've decided to try guilding the whole part then painting over the guilding.
I've started by sizing all the parts for guilding

then guilding the whole lot

Now painting it

also I decide to put a wash over some of the solid gold parts to highlight some of the detail

Yep Dave all gold leaf (in fact it's probably got more gold on it than the kit cost) unfortunately unless the missing parts turn up I can't go much further with this build so it will probably end up in a dio of dry dock having a refit.

Hi Alan no there must be 60 odd pieces missing and although some of them I could some of them are handed and after the trials I had just trying to make one handed piece on the Bentley build I don't fancy trying that 20 odd times and some of them are so complex I wouldn't know where to start. If I knew how to cast resin maybe but then I would have to figure how to make the mould in a way to get the parts out when moulded.

Very nice work on the gilding Ken, this looks more like a wooden ship than a plastic kit - well done!! Cool ThumpUp

Shame about the missing parts, but don't give up yet, they may still be forthcoming if you keep contacting Heller? Have you tried getting the company whom you bought the kit from to obtain spares from Heller on your behalf? After all, it was they who sold you an incomplete kit in the first place wasn't it? I'd give them a ring and see what they say? Glare
