Hi, I saw the first issue at CNA this morning. I would like to know how many issues there are and what the charge per issue will be. I also notice that it will be every 4th week - is that right?

I see that the issues are posted - if you subscribe - every 4 weeks but new issues are out fortnightly? If we do not subscribe, for whatever reason are we still able to get the "free Gifts"? if so, how? Current build : The Victory Pending builds : none - yet Built loads of bikes trucks planes and boats - all plastic kits. on wish list - a 1:24 spitfire, in wood, plastic, just as long as I can build it :)

@Cornwallray From reading the posts I see that alot of the guys are not too impressed with the free gifts. I dont have any of my old tools anymore so to get the kit as a starter and then upgrade if I keep up the hobby is my aim. Now, I see the paints you can get from DeAgostini are water based, are these OK or do you guys suggest maybe using the oils that you get from Airfix, Humbrol and the like? What have been found to the job the best? The water based are better for this than the Humbrol enamels but you might want to purchase them from somewhere else as a few people on this forum have ordered them from the shop and have waited nearly 2 months for them. These are the same and from this supplier are of a similar price and I think they post international give them a shout to see if they can help. I find Ebay a good place for tools but I notice they are not in S.A. But you might again get people to post to you. Hi all, I was really wanting to do this? Then the depressing point hit home, finding out how many issues. "120 issues and welcome to the forum." Right this is SA, so 120 issues, once every 4 weeks = 10yrs. 120 issues @ R69.95 per issue = approx R8400.00 ( ) So that put paid to that idea.

The issues over here are sent out once every month ie you receive 4 issues at a time,120 issues = 120 weeks = 2 yrs 4 months. R8400 is roughly equivalent(depending on exchange rate) to what we are paying. 120 @ £5.99 = £720. Hope this info helps in your decision. Hey Iceman Yip a bit scary but if you pay off in installments 8grand doesn't sound too bad. I am going to see how it goes buying from the news agent. I am more prepared to do it in installments then a lump sum tho. The other costs though are more glue, paints if you want to paint it, the sand papers etc etc so we will see, if it comes out a masterpiece then I wont mind - anyway - I need something to keep me out of mischief for a while Current build : The Victory Pending builds : none - yet Built loads of bikes trucks planes and boats - all plastic kits. on wish list - a 1:24 spitfire, in wood, plastic, just as long as I can build it :)

If we do not subscribe, for whatever reason are we still able to get the "free Gifts"? if so, how? Hi Wilberforce. If I were you, I'd rather subscribe and so ensure that I receive all issues from first to last. I have often in the past experienced that you start collecting a new partwork by buying it every so often from your central news agency, just to find after a few months (or maybe even a year)that they no longer stock that particular range. Now you end up with a halved collection and what amounts to a large mound of very expensive scrap since all those beautiful model parts you have so faithfully collected up to now are not nearly enough to build a completed model. Luckily I subscribed with Jaclin Enterprises (an SA company) and have just recently received my 142nd (and last) issue of "Build the Bismarck" from them stretching back over a period of more than 3 years. Never have I missed an issue. Jacklin are also doing the HMS Victory and I've just subsribed for Victory with them today. https://www.jacklin.co.za/products.php?PubID=3

Hi Iceman If my recent experience with Bismarck that I subscribed to from Jacklin Enterprises (see my post to Wilberforce on this forum)is anything to go by, you won't have to wait 10 years for completion: only 30 months i.e. 2 years and 6 months, since they send you four issues at a time every month (120 issues divided by 4 equals 30 months). I agree that R8400 is kind of "rof" for paying for a model, but if you look at what (apparently far less detailed)wooden ship models cost you in the hobby shops in Jo'burg etc. then it is still good value for money. If I'm looking at just all the photo etched parts I recived during my Bismarck subscription, these parts alone would probably have ended up at around R4000-R5000 if I had to buy an equavalent amount of detail sets for all the plastic models still lying on my shelves. Besides, R279.80 (which is what you wiil pay each month) is not so bad. The wives tend to support us guys spending this kind of cash on a scale model every month since that is less bucks we could spend at the local corner pub!

Hi Historian Who are this Jaclin group? I was thinking of subscribing but I dont want to commit to a debit order at the moment so going to take my chances with the CNA, if it bombs then we still can contact DeA, they are in Centurion, so I am sure I wont miss out even if I only start subscribing in a year, we will see how it goes, I must add that I went to CNA to get my 2nd issue today and I got the eish its not here yet reply..... Anyone know if there is a way to get the SA supplier to speed things up a bit? We are about 15 issues behind here, and I wouldn't mind being sent all 15... (I'm all for instant gratification) Part time modeller, full time biker

I like the thinking Quintin, I suppose you could try get hold of the local supplier but dont hold your breath. I actually think that this 1 issue a week is great because it gives you more time to work on the parts and make sure they are good ready for the next issue. But if you dont ask........ enjoy anyway Current build : The Victory Pending builds : none - yet Built loads of bikes trucks planes and boats - all plastic kits. on wish list - a 1:24 spitfire, in wood, plastic, just as long as I can build it :)

don't forget to check the other forums, aparently there are problems with some parts, part 15 (one of the ribs) is badly shaped, and there are issues with the guns, with 2 not being the same as the rest. Maybe with us being 22 issues behind, we won't have those problems. I will check before I start building mine though. Part time modeller, full time biker
