Hi all.
Im very sorry that i started another thread on the same subject, i didn't get any advice, so i did this, again my apologies.Blushing

I would like to know if i have to fair the ribs all the way to the decks at the stern of the ship(last 3 ribs, 27,28,30)?

Also my problem is that the decks protrude 1mm past the ribs on all of them on both sides, bar rib 15, and the last 3 ribs at the stern (both sides)
The decks all meet in the middle. Its a bit of a tight fit ,very snug in between the ribs. I havent even glued anything, all is dry fitted.

So... should i sand the decks until they meet the ribs, the easier option, or do i build up the ribs with 1-2mm strips to meet the decks?(warning signs of a symmetrical nature are sounding now)

Also with the last 3 ribs on both sides should i sand these down to the decks?
Thinking of symmetry. I fear its all gone to **** on that one due to rib 15.
Sorry if its already been mentioned and i missed it.
Thanks
piot

hi piot007 what i have done is sanded the decks back to meet the ribs and if my memory serves me right there was a discussion on this and that was the general way to do it because if you start building the ribs out you will start to lose the shape of the boat.and as for the last 3 ribs i wouldnt worry too much about the deck edges cause they wont be seen just go over the ribs with a plank and shape as needed..hope this helps paul
cheers benny

Hi Piot,

You will find as well that as the planks are a good 2mm thick, you have a lot of room to sand and shape the hull once planked in addition to the fairing.

Tom

Pleased this question was answered I was just about to ask the same thing - My next 4 issues should arrive at the weekend so I am planning the prep work ready for the planking. BigGrin BigGrin
You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Thanks for that, any bulges over 1.5mm thick in the finished planking will be sanded down to almost paper thin planking. I may have to double plank, with a vaneer.
Thanks again.BigGrin

Its worth considering adding a veneer, although after you have sanded the hull planking down it does come up really nice and smooth

Cheerz Tom, I will see how my first attempt of planking looks like (launch not included) before laying out more cash for veneer. The launch planking went very very smoothly for me. However, they were thin planks and easily manipulated.
I can see the main hull not going too wellLOL.
Im painting the hull so filler is an option for me to cover my mistakes.
Think I'll take out shares in miliput. LOL LOL
