While I wait for my Millennium Falcon kit to arrive, I've decided to start building some more Metal Earth models, starting with this Imperial Star Destroyer.

Kit in Package

Sheets Unpackaged

Extent of Tools Needed

Will probably only take a few hours to do. Absolutely love building these.

FYI, this is also a test of uploading pictures into a forum from photo bucket after resizing. Let me know if they are too big please, I'd like to NOT annoy anyone ;)

Looking forward to seeing this one built as I do like these Metal Earth models, they are simple but really good fun to build.

The photos look fine to me, anything about 640 x 480 is about right BigGrin

Okay, I've completed the bottom section and stand. In all about 13 pieces and a bit of eye strain :) One odd thing about the instructions on this one is that the perimeter tabs are twist not fold even though they are on the outside. If I were to do it again, I'd probably ignore the instructions and do them as fold over, however since this is the bottom, it won't really be seen. (Can see it a little hanging down in the second photo, might bend them anyway so not as visible)

That certainly is odd with the instructions having those tabs as twist Confused, definately need to be folded, it's looking pretty nice though Cool

Of course now that they are twisted, they won't fold as cleanly... Ohh well :)

Should be better now. Went through and untwisted all the tabs on the bottom and folded them. A little difficult to get leverage on this piece without bending other parts, but seems to have mostly worked.

Guess I should find some better lighting for pictures too...ohh well, such is life :)

Little bit of an engine mishap, those tabs can be brittle and they both broke off. Rather than punt on the project and buy a new kit, I believe superglue will come to my rescue once the rest of the model is done. Second picture is the tower which came together pretty nicely.

Hint: The bigger rocket/engine pieces are the size of the tip of a pen, so using that to bend them around to get them at least mostly circular helped ALOT.

I'll admit, this one is harder than some of the others I've done due to the small size of most of the pieces. Nothing will ever be worse than the R2-D2 though, man, that one was brutal.

To give a little size reference, that second picture is a very zoomed in closeup with a standard sized ball point pen its resting on.

BigGrin Hi Imp

Looks great although I suspect from your comments a little fiddly to do at times. Over here we use a coin like a penny or 2p piece to get an idea of size. Keep em coming.

We use coins here too, I was just using the pen as a way to stand up the piece, didn't even consider size reference in pictures until afterwards. Here are two photo's to give an idea of how small some of the constructions and pieces are.

Apologize for the blur. Enjoy!

Aaaaand...she's done. The only thing left to do at some point is figure out how to reattach the third thruster cone in the back. Word of warning to anyone doing this one, the tabs for the 3 large thruster cones are spaced much further apart than their respective slots. Not sure how to get around this, but be very careful with that portion of the build.

Top Portion of Star Destroyer Completed - About 25 parts

Fully Assembled Star Destroyer minus 3rd Thruster Cone - Broken

LOL!!! I read this to my wife and she exclaimed "Ohhh no!!" and started giggling. I was thinking of doing the Mars Rover and the Lunar Lander, but I have 3 other Star Wars ones to put together first. I didn't even think about using the extra pieces for other models, or as you said, if one doesn't work out, use the whole thing heheh.

Hi Impatience, BigGrin

That looks neat.

Very small, but neat.Cool Cool

I`ll have to send you a penny as I`ve no idea how big/small a quarter is.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

If the size of the pen is as I think, then this is really miniature.Blink Blink Blink

Good stuff, would like to see more.Love

Thought I would do a little search on here and see if anyone was making these.

Just had a week off and found the Star Wars X wing kit in a shop at the dockyard of all places. I never knew these existed but they are a great idea!

I have almost finished the x wing and have a t34 tank to build next. I have found them quite fiddly so far but the results are worth it.

The one thing I have really struggled with is creating cylinders. Cursing

This meant I messed up the engine tubes on the x wing before working out you can just wrap the sheets round a screw driver of the right diameter to get a nice curve.

Am already thinking of building the rest of the star wars / tank kits. Glare

The star destroyer looks amazing!

Looks great Imp,
I just got done with R2, he was brutal but turned out great, I have already given him to a co-worker that is a Star Wars geek like me, so don't have a Pic. I found using a tooth pick worked pretty well on the cylinders for mine.

Great job. I built this one also. Used a regular wooden pencil to form the engine cones. The dome on the bottom of the model I used an old leather wallet filled with paper and a marble to get the uniform dome shape. Yes, some of the parts are almost to small to see but I loved how it turned out. I have the Falcon and the X-wing still in the packages. Will try to post some pics of mine also. Fiddly... definitely but a fun project to take up a day with nothing else to do.
Best Regards,
Ron

The falcon is..... well, let's just say be sure to be of calm mind when you go for the Falcon. Also remove any flammable or breakable objects in the vicinity beforehand like spouses or pets.

But the X-Wing is good fun.

I've built a few of these kits during my lunch break at work. My favourite so for the the star wars AT-AT. The worse one i've built is the apollo lander, the instructions steps are badly ordered and i ended up snapping part of the main body at the joint and it generaly didn't fit together as well as the other kits.

I'm thinking of getting some of the transformers or Halo sets next.
