Hi Andy your off to a great start with your planking off the decks If i remember correctly Kieth Julier did a build of this kit in Model Boats magazine and gave it an all round thumbs up inc value for money Plus this was his first use of MDF instead of ply for the frames.... although he seemed sceptical at first he was won over Looking forward to seeing her come together

Thanks everyone for looking in and your comments, @ Budgie, I have Kieth Juliers book 'The New Period Ship Handbook' which has his description of the build of the Agememnon or Eggs n bacon as her crew fondly called her, This kit is an older one with the ply frames and not the MDF ones but perhaps that artical was just an updated version of the one I have. Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi All The main hull has been painted in the area of the false gun mounts with matt black [ best done now before any planks go on] then the other half deck was planked. Marked out the trenails then drilled and added the cocktail sticks on both half decks. Trimmed and sanded the decks then after a small amount of adjustment glued them in position as you can see. Next its a couple of coats of danish oil. More soon Regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Nice going Andy, looking the biz! Tree nailing is much more in scale on this size kit too, should look fantastic. Steve

Hi Steve Thanks for looking in and your comments, the planks are 4mm wide so a better width and more to scale than 5mm planks, the trenails should start to show better once the Danish Oil goes on. Regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi All A big thank you for all your comments, the build will go fast at first as its an old build and I want to get the 1st planking done to settle everything down, once the hull has been planked things will slow down considerably. The deck has now had 3 coats of Danish Oil and the little experiment with the wash to simulate the caulking has I think turned out quite well, what do you think all comments good or bad welcome. I do know that in real life the decks would be holy stoned practically white and would not look as I have done them. More soon. Regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Tony and Mick Thanks fore looking in and your comments there always appreciated, @ Mick try to buy the wood cocktail sticks if your going to use them as the really cheap ones can be made from bamboo which are a beggar to trim and the bonus is that after trimming you just sharpen them and use them again Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi All More progress, The next job after fitting the deck was to add the inner gun whale with lime wood, the first strip on each side next to the deck were pre-painted with red ochre to prevent the inevitable slips. After the planking the strips were painted and the next set of deck cross beams added ready to dry fit and pin the next deck and poop deck plys in place, then the masts were added to make sure they fitted correctly into there slots, I had to enlarge the main and poop deck holes on mine. After the decks had been added the whole hull was sanded back to get everything in line ready for the pre-cut bulwarks to be glued and pinned in place. This looks harder than it is to do as when the plan is looked at the first gun port forward edge is over the hull former so gives a reference point and the marking the position of the rear deck at the stern end makes it easy to line up and pin. The frame is now ready for the first set of planking starting from the bottom of the bulwarks just fitted. More soon. Regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
