In answer to your question it depends whether the spitfire you are after is a part work series or a plastic model kit. If it's a part work I would suggest e-bay because you can pick up a whole kit at a bargain price.
If it's a plastic kit such as Airfix, Revell, etc, I would recommend shopping around using the Internet as e-bay is not always the cheapest I have found.
Deagostini did a r/c spitfire kit which you can pick up from e-bay at a very reasonable price. I'm building one at the moment myself. I'm going to be posting more updates very soon so look in and see what you think. If its a plastic kit you're after I might recommend Trumpeter with the Big Ed photo etch upgrade kit to make it look really special. However the choice is yours of course.
Just to remind you that there is already an excellent Spitfire part work running at the moment on Model Space, you could subscribe to that one if you wanted to. It's a high quality, high detail kit, with an excellent build diary to match.
