Done Planes
Done Boats
so it must be trains next.
Was looking at the D51 but wanted something that I could finish a little quicker.
Have been following Darbyvets Occre Build of the Jupiter.
Reminds me of all those Westerns that where on the telly pre SciFi times
Have now received my kit from Cornwall Models and so too start

Step 1) Check contents of Box. If the weight of the box is an indication I think this will be a good quality kit.

Will post pictures as I progress

Excellent-another Jupiter build.Look forward to seeing you build diary Gil.

Everything has been smooth sailing so far except for the construction of the tender.I built my wood frame for the tender and then noticed it was warped so be careful when you build that.Everything fits so well I got a little complacent.

Having now completed my inventory of the box the build begins

The parts consist of metal, plastic and wood
The plans/instructions are exploded diagrams showing what goes where so that should be fun

I intend to follow the plans as set out A to B to C etc with the only deviation where I think it might be easier to complete the painting of some parts prior to construction

I have noticed that some of the plastic parts will require some easing to fit and care will be required as they are fragile in some areas.

Some pictured added and more to follow as the build progresses

I have decide to move away from my original plan to follow the build as per the plan order and will now be building various components of the build to be assembled into a complete engine later. My next step is the Cow Catcher for the front of the engine.

Straight forward if a bit fiddly and some careful sanding of some of the component to ensure a good fit

Have primed this ready for the final painting later

Thanks for the positive comments

Have decided to have a go at the wheels. Was not to sure of the colour or what paint to use.

In the end I primed with modelmates grey primer and use Halfords Peugeot Cherry Red (Yes that's a car spray from my local car parts store) You get twice as much paint for the same price as hobby paint.

I have not finished yet as you will see in the picture. the masking is still on the rims. I will remove and buff the base metal to give a nice shine, hopefully

Cracking build you have on the go there.

The instructions look to be a lot better than what i have in the Adler kit. They seem to have gone the route of the teaditional plastic model kits with the jupiter ones and they look easier to follow to my eye.

Good call on the halfords paint by the way it really is good indeed and the under coats they do are very good quality. Been doing some advance planning (a long way off as yet) for a Titanic build and the red primer gets recommended as one of the best choices for the anti fouling psint on the lower hull.

The "appliance" white spray they do is also a good choice for a whole host of space related models.

Looking forward to your next updates.

Happy Modelling

Thanks for that

When I built my Model of the Bismark some years ago now I used Halfords red primer for the hull (Below the water line) which is one of the reasons I went back to them for the paint on this build

Have now finished the Cow Catcher

I used French Blue as I had some left over from my Victory Build

The six Brass pins are also from the Victory as I preferred the colour to those supplied. In view of their length I cut them down to 4mm and pre drilled the base of the cowcatcher to received the cut-down pins. As a lot of this build is MDF pre-drilling is I feel recommended to avoid splitting

I have decided to complete as far as I can all the wooden shells before I add the metal coverings.

One thing I have found is that it is important to dry fit the components as some of them require some sanding to obtain a good fit. Being MDF too much pressure can result in damage followed by bad language !!!!!!!

Mad Mad Mad Mad

Just finished the first part of the tender

I see from the plans that I will be required to mark the rivets on the metal covers and to that end I have purchased a pounce wheel. Never used one of these before so it will be a learning curve. Any advice on the methodology for using this implement will be gratefully received

Confused Confused Confused Confused
