I decided that due to the progress I have made with my Millennium falcon build that I would take a short break and crack open my Fujimi Chibi-maru Kongo.

This scales out to roughly 1/700 I think, its not to everyones taste but will be a fun little distraction. I also have the Chibi-Maru Akagi and Yamato.

Lets kick off with the box

Photo etch by KA Models, I know from experience with their 1/350 Yamato PE that KA Models produces very high quality PE

The sprues, generally very good with nice detail but some flash that needs to be cleaned up

A fret of photo etch and stickers, most of the stickers are replaced with the photo etch. The wooden deck stickers will not be used, instead I will paint the decks

Build starts off with the main turrets, only 4 parts for 2 and 5 parts for the other 2. This is where I really noticed just how small the photo etch is Blink

Starting to build up the main superstructure, plastic windows cut out to replace with the photo etch

A quick test fit and of course a penny to give you a sense of scale

As you say Dave, may not be to everyone's taste but it certainly looks like fun and that is what modelling should be about, having fun, so it gets my vote!! Cool ThumpUp

Something tells me you've probably got one or two of those Hasegawa 'Egg Plane' kits in your stash if you like this sort of thing? LOL. Laugh

Looks great mate well done.

Thanks for the comments Kev and the link to the egg planes.

I'm not really a fan of the egg planes to be honest. I do have another 2 shios to build and a Mogami carrier on order BigGrin

Small update from today, just the rear smoke stack done tonight.

I must say I have a new appreciation of people that do 1/700 builds using photo etch, this stuff is tiny Blink

Thanks Michael & Mick.

A couple more photos, not much more to do now. Railings to add, life boats and flag staff fore and aft, bit of filler here and there, then slap some paint on the start sticking all the parts down.

The whole thing measures just over 4 inches

4 inches! That's going to be a nightmare to paint. Good luck

Thanks Michael, I must admit I am still trying to work out my pan of attack with the painting. In the meantime the construction phase has been completed.

All still dry fitted as will paint the hull off of the main body parts.

I actually had a day off from doing this yesterday as I was sulking due to one of the AA guns flying off and landing on the garage floor somewhere, spent half an hour and couldnt find it Crying I almost threw the whole thing in the bin. When I got home from work today I did eventually find it BigGrin

Hope you liked the pictures, I made a little photo studio to take them LOL
