Thank you all for looking in and your comments.
Kev, they didn't come with bolt heads and the originals were wrong, but I have some hex styrene rod on its way so I can make some.BigGrin BigGrin

Sounds like a plan Daran. Cool ThumpUp

That's the problem with etch replacements, they are great for adding realism in terms of thinner, more realistic plating, but the whole thing is inherently 2D so things like wiring and bolts can't be replicated properly, as you will well know!? Still jolly useful stuff though. Cool

Great build mate, keep it coming. I'm getting closer to announcing my entry - just a little longer and I'll be up and running!!

Well now the main chassis is dry and the top chassis plates, it is time to replace the boiler and walkway supports with some photo etch. This is going to be very time consuming, as all the bolt heads and plates are separate and not cast all in one like the kit parts. Very nice detail though and should make a big visual difference with the extra parts. Here is the progress so far, detail will be added next session when these have dried properly.

Nice work as always Daran, should be stunningly detailed when complete, looking good!Cool ThumpUp

Are you using the 'Gator' glue that I can see in your photo for applying the etch? I normally use a tiny dab of CA gel to hold a piece in place then run thin CA underneath? Is the Gator glue better than CA in your opinion and why?

Thanks for looking in and the comments!! Kev, the Gator glue is great for the pe as it doesn't grab and gives you time to position the parts, dries clear and can be applied with a paint brush as it is water based, so also easy to clean off of parts. And it dries rock solid, as good as any CA glue that I have tried.BigGrin

Managed to spend some time on this today doing some of the photo etch. I found some micro drills to fit the holes to align it all before adding the bolt heads. Time consuming, but well worth the effort I think!BigGrin BigGrin

I have spent the afternoon leveling up the boiler.Cursing Even with the kit parts there was a bit of a gap, but the pe set is spot on and after some research, I found it is a common problem. Out came the plasticard!! BigGrin BigGrin Got it spot on and I am a happy modeler!! There are pe strips with rivets around the front main support and they will hide the card perfectly.BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

I'd say that was an afternoon well spent Daran and with the boiler on it's looking good - well done mate, keep it coming!! Cool ThumpUp

This BR52 loco looks a heck of a lot bigger than I expected on it's own, and the mind boggles at just how big this dio is going to be with the Leopold added?

My god, it's going to be HUGE!!! Blink Blink ScaredScared
