Hello all

Looking ahead at painting (a little forward planning)the cockpit,
I note there are a lot of forums discussing which colour is
the correct to use for this.

I always thought it was called 'cockpit green' but that
may be my long ago Airfix days!

So the question is has anyone a definitive answer?

I Look forward to your replies.

Regards.

Alan

Its formal title is RAF grey/green. If you want straight out of the pot and not into mixing paint paint, then Humbrol 78 cockpit green is about as close as you'll get.

Hello all

I've contacted the RAF regarding the cockpit colour and this is the reply I received.

"Unfortunately the RAF were rather vague in their instructions for the interior colour of aircraft. Those parts that will not normally be seen were to be treated with an anti-corrosive treatment which was a transparent yellow tinted substance. Any areas that would be viewed, such as cockpit interiors, should be painted “matt grey or grey-green” unless the area will be used for searching at night in which case “matt black” should be used. No further instructions with regards to establishing an exact shade appear to have been issued, and it was up to the manufacturers and those responsible for procuring paint to decide what to use."

I hope this is a help to some!

Regards.

Alan
