BigGrin Hi All

No Gun ports cut today as I have been busy spraying up the last D51 parts so in between spraying and drying I added the stern counter and stern gallery's using the pre -cut parts, note the stern gallery is only pinned on at the moment as there are still parts to add here. Made a hash of the upper stern counter and cut them short, it was my own fault for misreading the instructions but managed to repair the damage in the end. A fair bit of fetling was involved with the shaping of the formers and upper and lower capping pieces. Still looks a little bare here but there is still loads of etch, shaped brass strip and castings to go on yet. Now I must do the Gun ports so I can start the second planking. More soon.

Regards

BigGrin Hi Bernd and Ian

Thanks for looking in and your comments. The construction of the round houses is quite simple really and the whole bulkhead fitted onto the hull without any adjustment. I have always known the round houses are the ships toilets but had wondered in the past how they worked so to speak, but the inclusion of holes in the lower most former made things perfectly clear as these poop chutes are over the edge of the deck. Blink Laugh LOL .

BigGrin Hi All

Some more progress, the gun ports are now all cut out and the seven central ports as indicated on the plans lined and painted Ochre Red, these gun ports do not have lids so the second planking fits flush with them. Two wallnut planks 1mm x 5mm have been laid either side of the hull of the secondary planking the first lower plank follows the main wale line I marked on the hull previously and all planks will now follow this master plank.

When I had a bit of time I made up the ships stove, the stove is supplied in several flat cast pieces that fit reletivly well together after some fettling and a small amount of filler. In the picture its been undercoated and the first coat of black paint, I also added a penny to give an idea of size. The rear gallery of the central stern gallery has also had a coat of paint Black and Yellow Ochre this already looks quite eye catching but will look even better when the white window frames are fitted. More soon.

Regards

BigGrin Hi All

Planking continues above the Main wale line, one side is now done and all the ports cut out and squared off. The upper most planking is only partially trimmed to shape so as to give support to the upper gunwales when I turn her over the do the lower planking. On the other side I am about a third of the way up, cutting the gun ports out and ensuring there square takes a lot of time but worth it in the end I think. The second planking still needs a good sanding back but she's starting to look the part now with her second skin. more soon.

Regards
