Hi magpie,
In a recent thread on ways to attach the hull planking without
pins you mentioned the use of something called Alphatic glue.
Can you tell me what it is and where it can be purchased.
I've tried a couple of aformentioned sites such as ModelExpo and Cornwall
and I can't seem to find any.
Any help would be appreciated as I am going for a natural finish for
my build so I need to have as few imperfections in the planking as possible.
Have already taken Zeptrader's bulldog clip suggestion on board for clamping,
so all that is left is to find the right glue for the job.
Thanks in advance and happy building

Thanks Karl
I realised my mistake when I visited the webpage that Magpie guided me to.
It's wonderful what I can find when I know how to spell correctly. Thanks for
once again showing me how useful this forum can be. I don't really know
where I would be if it wasn't for the wealth of info that I'm getting from
these pages.
Thanks again

Just a question to all the guys doing plain wood finish or natural wood finish, whatever you want to call it, the original structure was held together with wood pegs and nails to adhere it to the frame, would a more authentic look not be to have the pins showing in the wood, I mean the Victory was not held together by prayer and good luck? Just a thought guysConfused
Current build : The Victory

Hi,
It would look authentic but in the scale of the ship you probably wouldn't see the nails. If you wanted to you could use trenails made of wood. Our brass pins are 1mm thick scaled up would make them 84mm thick. Thats one hell of a nail...lol. you would need to use .5mm or lower pins to get it looking right.BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Try Evostik Wood Glue. I've been using it for years, it's resin based and a hell of a lot cheaper than aliphatic glue. It's also more readily available.

Hi,

The only reason I use aliphatic is that it doesn't stain exotic wood so you can varnish it, also can take wood stain unlike most normal wood glue. If you clamp the wood with aliphatic glue it is dry in an hour so you can do another plank. quickest mine has dried is 15 minutes...BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Hi Magpie,
That's something else I didn't know about. A little tip like that can save
lots swearing and tears further into the build process. Thanks
