All of the thwarts are cut and the brass strip cut, formed, and attached to the thwarts. I will prime them tomorrow and paint and install them over the weekend. I also plan to start the carronade tomorrow. I'll post pictures as soon as the thwarts are in. I also saw that DeAgostini billed for month 2 (packs 11-20) today so I should see that within a week. Probably right on time for finishing month 1. Dominick

Paul, Thanks, very much appreciated. I was pretty busy with work today and then cooked tapas this afternoon for a party the wife and I are attending on Saturday but still managed to get some work done on HMS Victory. The thwarts are painted and ready to be installed and the carronade is about half done. I also got the blackening solution in from Mig and tested it out. Mixed results. It blackens really well by creating an oxidation layer on the surface but it's fairly easily rubbed off. If it's something you are not going to handle, or that you will seal it's great - dead flat black - but otherwise it might be rough. I promise I will post pictures of my progress tomorrow. By the way, please let me know if I am posting too frequently, I don't want to overdo it or wear out my welcome? Dominick

Gents, Thanks. Here is the launch in its current state with the duckboards and thwarts installed. Next up, the windlass and framing at the stern of the launch. Quick question: I see in the pictures that the rope coil is just laying in the bottom of the boat. However, in reality, would the remainder, on the outside of the coil be tied off to the eyelet in the front of the keel and would the anchor be attached to the rope at the center of the coil? Looks very nice, and yes - please keep posting As for your question - not sure how this would be in reality but you can do what ever you want, it's your model and there is always "artistic license" There will be many occasions along the way where you will come up with something that is not in the instructions but you feel would look better, in that case just go for it! Hi Dominick Launch looks great, as to your question Panart do a 1/16 scale model of the Victory launch and on that kit there is a coiled rope fixed to the anchor at the bow two buckets or large wooden quarter barrels with rope coiled in them midships and a miscelanious coil at the stern. I have this kit in my stash and will build her one day, Karl also did a build diary of this kit many moons ago links below, http://www.cornwallmodel...s_victory_longboat.html
http://forum.model-space....aspx?g=posts&t=940 Now I will bore you with a little history, Did you know that without the launch Victory could not lay anchor out of port, The launch had a windlass and stern runner for the anchor cable to aid in laying the anchors when they were deployed . That's why when any ship of the line went into battle the ships boats were towed behind to prevent them being damaged as without them the ship would be crippled. Steve, thanks m8. Andy, thanks great info and actually, I love history so no bore at all and quite fascinating. I'll keep it as a story to tell when describing the model to others. I don't know if I'll do all of that but I'll definitely add a bucket or two. So here's the windlass in process. DSoldano attached the following image(s): Dominick

Also finished the carronade. Everything is built correctly but the back end seems to sit a little high and the carriage slopes down slightly to the front. I may notch the back of the carriage to bring it closer to level. I used the blackening solution on the eyelets and I'm pretty happy with that. DSoldano attached the following image(s): Dominick

Alan, Chris, Thanks. I installed the windlass and the rope coil last night. I tied the free end of the coil off to the eyelet in the bow and then glued it to the floor with a touch of CA. I also started cutting the supports at the stern last night and hope to finish and prime them today and then paint and install them tonight or tomorrow. I'll post pictures when it's complete. Then I'll carefully box up all of the fittings and store them until they are ready to install on the ship. It looks like DeAgostini just shipped month 2 so I'll finish right on time for the next shipment. I guess it's time to start reading through Pack 11 - 20 in the official build section. Dominick
