A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... I ordered an amazing model! And so begins my diary. This diary is going to be as much for my own tracking of this whole thing as it is to share with the rest of you my progress. So I apologize now if there are any long drawn out posts that get kinda boring. I am a bit of a detail freak and can tend to get a bit monotonous at times. I discovered this existed on May 20th when a friend of mine pointed me to a post of someone building their own on the rpf...I ordered my Falcon on May 21st. Got an email that it shipped on the 25th and the first issues arrived on the 27th! Much quicker turn around than I expected. First impressions are that it is going to be EPIC! But I am not super impressed with the default paint job. Definitely going to need some work there. But I am not going to completely repaint the whole thing like some people are doing. Just going to work with what is there and try to improve it. I can't wait to find time to sit down and read through the books! Gonna take pics of it soon and post them here to properly document everything. Keep checking back! Charles R.

Great to see you starting your build diary!! I'll be very interested to see what modification/changes you make. I'm thus far holding true to just doing the build OOB, but I'm sure as I seem more and more peoples fabulous work I'll want to rethink my approach :) Let's get those pictures coming in! (After you have had sufficient time to fully read the great books DeAgostini includes of course) --Impatience Current Build: Millennium FalconWish List: Lamborghini Countach LP 500S, Red Bull Racing RB7

Opened up the packages tonight finally and got to feel how awesome this model really is! I don't have any supplies to start any real work on it yet so I just built the frame for issues 1 and 2 tonight. The frame part's fit together really well! Here is the frame all together. Here us the underside with part of the hull on it. And here is the turret hull in my big hands! This thing is gonna be soo huge! Gonna spend my model time now doing research on how to do painting and weathering. Got alot to learn to get as good as some of the folks on here! Charles R.

When I got my first box I was like a kid on Christmas morning! It just blows you away! And its amazing how strong the framing holds together. Currently I'm up to issue 12 and just got billed for issues 13-16 which should be arriving next week. I love this kit! Can't wait to get it all together! Welcome to the club bro!

Yeah I am chomping at the bit to start painting and making my kit but I am nervous to do anything major until I get much more of the overall kit. I dont wanna start painting until I can do most of the hull so that I don't get inconsistencies. Been building the frame as it comes and planning but thats about it and its killing me. I wonder if DeAgostini would allow me to pay for all of the issues that are already out and catch up to the rest of you? I see your in SC, I am in NC!! What part of the state are you in? I am close to Raleigh. Charles R.

I was able to get the second month expidited and it came early, but it took a few attempts as the CS wasn't sure if they could do it or not. However I may have to call back and see if I can get the others that are available because it doesn't seem like all of them were expidited. I was told by the last person that it's a bit of a crap shoot though if you can get them expidited or not as they only get so many of each set in at a time and of course priority is given to people who have a shipment due.

So I called them last night out of the blue and they said they are going to process my order today and it should ship tomorrow!! So YEAH!! I am going to try to get caught up as if I had ordered it the first month. They said I should call back around the 15th again and they can expedite the next months order also. Charles R.

Ok I finally got through reading all of the first 4 issues and I have built my frame. The frame is awesome so far! Here are some pics of what I have done. Nothing much just opening stuff up and laying it out on the blueprints really. I have been doing a lot of research into weathering and I think I am starting to get the hang of it. I have the old cutaway falcon model that I did back in High School still but the paint job on it was amateur at best. So I think I am going to use that as a test model to practice weathering on since its already got a base coat. Should be a fun upgrade to the model as well. I will post pics of that before and after I do it. Charles R.

That AMT cutaway kit is rather nice actually. The interior especially so.
I build a couple of the non-cutaway version in high school and later trashed them all. Truly horrible paint jobs with absolutely no clue on how to weather. Just black globs and smears of the old Testors enamel paints.
Yours on the other hand, I would be proud to display. Looking forward to seeing your build.

Ok so this weekend I got a little time to work on my model. Didn't have alot so I decided to just work on the quad turrets rather than my practice model. Need more time to just sit and paint to start that. So here is my progress... Filed down and sanded the mold lines. Then I got out the dremel and drilled some holes in the ends of the turret barrels. I also realized 8 needed better light so u went to Home Depot and bought a shop light and some super white t8 bulbs and the with some scrap wood in my garage built a quick light stand for my work table. Turned out pretty good! Charles R.
