I also used a Rotary cutting tool to shape the ends but that may be a bit over the top. Cutting Tool

Barrel Stack complete. I added some bungs to the barrels using bits of toothpick (cocktail sticks in the UK) as suggested by John - great idea. It's not perfect but I like it. DSoldano attached the following image(s): Dominick

Gents, Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad everyone is enjoying it. I plan to assemble the framework for the hull this weekend - I soaked and weighted the frames and most of them came out very flat. One still has the slightest bit of warp but it should straighten right out when the false decks are installed. I'll take and post progress photos as it comes together - one of my goals of doing the build log is to help other beginners that might come after me. Dominick

I have a question for the larger group. In assembling the framework for the hull this weekend, I will have to decide whether to include or exclude the cutaway. I'm kind of torn on which way to go. Anyone care to put forward the pros and cons of the cutaway and/or no cutaway? Dominick

Hi Dominick, believe you need to think of how and where you want the final build to be displayed. The cut out section will certainly be full of detail and gives a great insight as to the cramped conditions the sailors had to endure... This one is all down to personal choice, me I would probably go for the cut out section.... Regards Alan

Hi Dominick. I Personaly like the cutaway section veiw. as Alan said it is also which way you want to display the model. Also if you are coppertilimg i would do the oposite to which you are displaying first because i found the second side easier as you are used to doing the tiles. Alan, Ian, Thanks for the input. I am leaning toward the cutout but I guess I still have a few days to decide. I am planning to build a free standing case, perhaps with bar storage on the bottom, that will go against a wall. I suppose I can always turn the ship around in the case if I prefer one side or the other. Dominick

I just hit a major milestone. Today I assembled the frames to the keel and fit the main gun deck to the rest of the framework. I had to take a good bit of warp out of the stern deck halves but a light soak and a day or two under some heavy books and most of it was gone. The center of the two deck halves goes exactly down the center of the keel and I centered all of the frames to my lines. I thought I would post the pictures before I glue it up. I'm a little embarrassed  that I actually drove the nailer through the deck in a few places (see picture 3). My assumption is that this deck is completely hidden and that I don't need to patch and fill the holes or worry about any of the nail heads  . Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. There are also a few spots where the deck sits out slightly from the frames and where the frames sit out slightly from the deck (see pictures 4 and 5). My assumption is that all of this will get corrected during the fairing process. Again, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. DSoldano attached the following image(s): Dominick

Looking good Dominick and you are correct on both counts, you will not see any of the deck you've just laid so appearances here don't matter, what matters is that the deck is correctly fitted and all lined up... .. The fairing process will take care of any deck overhang from the ribs so again no need for concern here.... Regards Alan

Now that looks like a hull ready for planking and as Alan says any overhangs will be removed with the fairing process. Are you going to put infills at the bow and stern to aid in the laying of the planks, as for the cut out have you seen how Bernd did his cut away section if you do take the cutaway route then some planing at this stage of the build will pay dividends if you choose to do something along those lines.Look at pages 12/13 of the build link below. http://forum.model-space...sts&t=4698&p=12
