More work on the tender. stages here.First applying the metal covering to the tender and then adding the top "wing" pieces and blending everything together. The wooden pieces help to set the angle for the wing and the holes are covered by parts.Very clever engineering darbyvet attached the following image(s):

More bits and pieces to assemble. This includes the cylinders and bell. The clapper for the bell was missing, but I figured you cant see it so I didn't worry about it. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Assembling the light. This was a mix of cast parts, plastic and photoetch. The original lamp on the Jupiter train was powered by Kerosene.Apparently the lamps did not produce that much light so it probably was a bit dangerous driving the train at night. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Thanks Dave, this kit looks deceptively simple on the face of it, but if is taking a long time to get everything squared away.I am almost ready for a dry fit of the whole train and then its on to my worst nightmare PAINTING. And I am behind schedule so I will be painting when the heat and humditiy are at their peak.

OK so I have been mulling over adding a freight or passenger car or caboose to the train so it doesn't look so lost on the trestle. I scoured the internet and couldnt find any 1/32 kits or rolling stock. The Jupiter has 45 mm wheel spacing so it should be G scale right?Well not exactly.apparently G scale covers anything from 1/22 to 1/32 scale according to a nice gentleman I spoke to on the phone and there are no 1/32 scale cabooses unless you want someone to custom make one for $500.No thanks. So what to do. I decided I would order a G scale caboose (technically a 1/24 scale caboose) and see how it looked.Well here is how it looks next to the Jupiter.Ooops!! Definitely too big. I found some plans on the internet for a 4 wheel caboose that would be accurate to the late 1800s.SO I will have to cut down the chassis of the caboose I bought and scratchbuild a new top.I figured this would be easier than building a whole new caboose. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

OcCre do a freight wagon in 1:32 (OC56002) which Cornwall Model Boats stock. £50.00. It is from the 1920's and I was thinking of adding this to my Jupiter. Just checked, the scale is G45 which is the same as the Jupiter Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

Thanks GIl, I just ordered this.I have to get it from Spain because none of the US distributors carry Occre trains. I may end up just using the chassis and make a caboose or I may modify it and keep it as a freight car.I will have to print new decals and get some references for the appearance of freight wagons in the late 1800s. I was looking at the Costa coach, but it just doesn't look right.I have Occre Br18 train kit and I think the coach would be fine for that.

Finishing up on the chimney by adding the details. The screen acted to trap large embers from escaping the chimney and starting a Prairie fire. I still have to add the rivets, but these are decals and wont be added until I have one layer of paint on the chimney. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Moving on to the wheels. The wheels in the kit are cast metal and are not finished.Prior to painting I decided to polish the rims to give a more realistic appearance.A few minutes with a dremel and some polishing compound brings out the shine nicely. After the wheels are painted I will go back and give them a final buff and polish. A bit disappointing since other Occre Kits I have have polished wheels darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Disaster strikes!!! I am missing a piece from the chassis.I suspect my cat Henry. After a lengthy interrogation he still wouldn't reveal the hiding spot for the part so I had to scratchbuild one to match. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Since I have a good head of steam up I moved on to the photecthed detail parts. There are quite a few on them and it was a little tedious separating them all from the frames. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Those detail parts are somewhat fragile but still require some sanding to remove the "nibs" left when removed from their frame. A gentle touch is required Will be adding some of the transfers to my Jupiter soon. The cab is all but finished paint wise "all" I have to do now is install the interior components If I get any more models that require this much painting I might have to invest in a spraying set. MMMMMMM Fathers day is coming soon might need to drop a few hints Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

I am interested to know how the transfers go on Gil.I am concerned they are pretty big and may tear if you are not careful.I am pretty much at the painting stage too.My freight car shipped.I will post some pics when it arrives. Carl

Applying the transfers MMMM Has taken me a while to suss it out, but you know we blokes don't believe in reading the manuals However in this case I have resorted to the instructions sparse as they may be. Unfortunately the transfers for the dial faces in the cab where unusable as they had all stuck together , waiting on replacement form OcCre The first set of instructions I read are not in English but digging deeper into the paperwork I found an English version. Not a lot of info but does give you some idea. I am attaching a copy of the "instructions" Be interesting to see how we get on as there are a lot of them to apply. I am going to try the ones on the axles for the tenders wheels first to see how easily they unglue from the backing paper.I am worried the big ones will be difficult to get wet enough to release the sticker cleanly without it either folding on itself or tearing.Waterslide decals would have been a better option.
