Alan, Steve, Thanks. I raised the keel slightly off of the building board and turned her upside down. It would really be terrible to have it glued to the building board. It should be dry by tomorrow and I plan to install the wood beams on the inside of the frames tomorrow. Andy, Thanks for the link. That is probably the most incredible build I have ever seen either on the web or in a museum. If I do the cutout I might try some of what he did but I doubt that my skills are up to all of it. Gents, Quick question, if I do the cutout, do I need to worry about the nail heads on this deck? Dominick

Hi Dominick I showed you Bernds build to give you an idea of what is possible with the build of course I do not expect you to reproduce the same I am just showing what is achievable. As for the basic cut out it is planked over the ply deck in this area but I would probably plank the deck further back by at least a hull template further to each side than recommended then before adding the upper deck paint the inner sides of the planking black below the next deck. hope this helps Regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Ian, Thank you. I installed the main gun deck beams (the ones on the sides that the false cannons mount to) and the cross beams for the second gun deck. All went together fairly well. As you can see from the state of the model I opted to go with the cut out. I also applied two coats of black to the areas that will be inside the cannon ports. Here she is at this stage. My only concern is that a number of the arms from the frames are still a bit warped above the deck line. I'm hoping these will straighten out with installation of the next few decks. Any advice mates? I also soaked and weighted the next deck sections as they were a bit cupped. DSoldano attached the following image(s): Dominick

Jase, Alan, Andy, and Steve, Thanks mates. The second gun decks finally dried out much flatter after soaking and weighting. Then I test fit and adjusted the decks as needed. shaped and bent the support beams and drew the deck boards and tree nails onto the rear portions of the second gun deck. I used Steve's method of weathering the deck with a 50/50 mix of Weather-it and water. It looks great. Thanks for sharing Steve. Next I glued the decks to the thwarts and used the deck beams and coffee mugs filled with water to weight the decks. The I'll seal the drawn on planks with some Tung Oil. I still want to adjust/straighten some of the frame arms. I plan to glue the deck beams to the deck without gluing them to the frames. Once that's dry I'll adjust any of the frame arms that need straightening and clamp and glue them to the beams to get them in position for fairing and planking. Here's the weathered deck.it has a plywoodylook here but It dried much more even. I'll post more pictures tomorrow. DSoldano attached the following image(s): Dominick

Thanks Gents, I started straightening all of the arms of the frames. I used rubber bands (as shown in the photo) to pull the offending arms into line and then glued them to the deck support beams. I actually took the batch of rubber bands that you see in the photo off this evening and it worked great. I have a few more to straighten on the starboard side and then a very few to get on the port side. Then I'll paint the required areas black, apply some Tung Oil to the simulated planking to seal it, and then it's on to fairing. Dominick

Thanks Ian, I am getting close to starting the fairing (probably this weekend outside the front of the garage to keep the dust down) and I had a few quick questions for the group. 1. At the bow, should the false keel and doublers be rounded or left flat to accept the keel and planks? Or is the false keel itself left flat and the doublers sanded roundish? 2. At the stern, it appears that the plywood bulkheads get sanded all the way down to the false keel so that the stern follows the angle of the false keel, is this correct? 3. I assume I sand any decks that protrude past the frames even with the frames but that I do not sand any frames even with the deck. Basically, if the frame protrudes past the deck but is fair with the other frames that is the correct profile? Or do I sand all of the frames fair to match the false decks? Thanks M8s - your advice is always appreciated. Dominick

Looks like DeAg billed for month 3 so I should see issues 21-30 in a week or so. The hull assembly is complete and all the parts that need to be painted black are done. Fairing starts tomorrow morning, wish me luck. Dominick
