Hi there,
I have just finished applying the sapele strips to the upper hull and cut out the gun ports. I am quite pleased with the result so far. I am getting to the stage of applying the guiltwork decoration and have purchased a goldleaf kit from an art shop. Does anyone have any experience of applying gold leaf to the decorative castings. Questions which occur to me are;
Do you still prime them?
Would a gold painted undercoat before you apply the leaf to disguise any tears be too obvious? The sheets are so thin that they blow away with the slightest puff of air.
I can see that covering some of the smaller castings is going to be a bit tricky. Getting a clean cut around the edges is going to involve some delicate work with a scalpel and magnifying glass.
Any other pitfalls which you can see?
I just think it would add a bit of 'authenticity' and may be worth going to the extra trouble to achieve especially as the subject is the SoS.

Hi Aurelius, great to hear from you and also happy to hear your SOTS build is progressing nicely.. I personally haven't worked with Gold Leaf but there are members here who have, perhaps they would be better placed to give you the answers you seek....  .. They have also posted on this subject, if you use the search facility on this forum and type in the key words 'Gold Leaf', this will bring up a number of posts that may be of assistance to you.... .. Aurelius Hi Aurelius, if you look near the top right of your screen, near the login icon you will see the word 'Search'. Click on that and it will open up a search selection screen. Will see if I can get someone to answer your query.... Regards Alan

 Hi Aurelius. delboy 271155 has used gold leaf on his SOTS if you look up his build diaries you can see how he did it  Hope this helps rgd Martyn Building ?
