Hi all, Fitted the upper Shrouds and bound their Deadeys this weekend. I also glued and lashed the Forcastle 12-pounder guns in place. (Thanks Steve, I ‘borrowed’ your method here) These are only discussed in issue 108, but I am trying to get as much of the assembly on the decks done before I finally fit the masts. Getting my hands in and around the rigging is a recipe for disaster!!! Finally completed issue 94. It has taken 16 hours – my third longest so far. Given though, I did put a little love into the lanterns by fitting them out with LED’s. Paging through issue 95 looks like I’m in for another marathon. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Hello Garth, your build is looking great. Good idea to build all the deck pieces before your rig your masts. It is a massive nightmare to move around once the rigging is in place. I discovered a few things I slipped up on and it is a serious mission to move around then, was very concerned for breakages, bumps and scrapes, which did happen. Well done so far. Looking good Garth I know what you mean about the issues taking longer at this stage. The time you are putting in is certainly paying off though Steve

Hi All, Completed the hammocks!!! I started the process in July last year with the intention of slowly chipping away at them as time would permit. I cut them all to size and put them in a bag that was close to hand and could setup my ‘assembly plant’ in no time at all. I decided to post my process sequentially, in one post as I think that it makes more sense this way. Hopefully it will be helpful to some. My process was as follows: Pic 01 & 02. I set up a cutting jig by clamping my steel rulers to cut a 30mm strip. Pic 03. Similar as before, now cutting strips into 30mm squares. Pic 04. I rolled them and tacked them with some white glue. I stopped doing this as I got into it, the Hackle pliers held them well enough. Pic 05 - 09. I clamped a needle into my trusty fly tying vice, slipped the rolled hammock over and clamped with the hackle pliers, bound and glued as per the instructions. Pic 10. The setup in our lounge. Pic 11. My apprentice Bryony, a great help – at least she thinks she is??? Pic 12 & 13. Hammocks installed. I cannot say how helpful my fly tying kit has been. It’s the cheapest one available and I have used it probably with all my rigging thus far. Also I was given some basic fly tying tutorials. Search the net for “David Cammiss - Beginner Tying Lessons” they are excellent – it may start another hobby. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Hi Gerrit and Alan, Thank you for looking in and for the nice words. I have completed the lower shrouds an am in the process of tensioning them. My Dead-eyes were not all exactly the same height , but fortunately the thread is fairly elastic and I was able to straighten things up a little. I'll post some pix when I'm a little further on with the shrouds. Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. Hi All, Was able to do some work on my Victory this weekend. I secured the shrouds and started to fit the Catharpins. I was really concerned, as not all my deadeyes were at the same height, but fortunately the shroud thread is fairly elastic, and I was able to even-out the deadeye spacing, without having to over-stress the shrouds. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl.
