Hi Crew! I am on my way to building the HMS Victory. I am a beginner builder. I would like to just have the wood be the glory and beauty, but I am wondering if this will hi light all my mistakes. I would imagine if I painted the Victory her colors I could get a way with hiding my mistakes. What do you guys think? Happy building. Yes, painting will hide a multitude of mistakes as you can also use wood filler for any gaps. I guess if you were aiming for a natural finish then were not too happy after the planking then you can always switch to plan B Steve

Hi JG, would have to agree with Stevie, as a first time builder you would probably be better off with the painted version and yes, it will help hide some of the mistakes being made... If you want to see how a natural wood finish would look the take a look at Yzwong's build diary on the Malaysian forum... .. You have the added bonus of starting the build as a natural finish changing to painted version should you find you need to.... Painted is also a beautiful finish to this build.... Regards Alan
