She's coming along very nicely Dave. I find the work station to be invaluable, everything I need for my SOTS build is stored in it ready for when it's needed. Don't think I would be without it now....

Today is one of those rare days that I have a day off AND no chores that need doing, well apart from repainting the kitchen window sill so I started off this morning with starting the planking after I had left the remainder of the middle deck drying over night.

I had precut about 100 planks for the task, I found this quite an easy task, this was probably as I waited until the whole of the deck was in place and had pre cut the planks. It didnt take me long to get through all those planks so after lunch I shall be starting the tedious task of cutting lots more.

I will be doing the trenails with a pencil as per the instructions after the deck is complete and had a light sanding.

Mick, This is my first wooden ship so cant compare it to the Victory, this however is a fantastic kit and it does seem to be going together really well. I am really looking forward to getting some of the hardwood on that is supplied as the wood looks really nice

Although I need to get the hang of not applying so much glue as I seem to be wasting a lot when I stick things down and it oozes out the sides resulting in lots of clean up.

If you look at that bottle of glue in the work station that was full and only been used for the Trinny and work station

Better to use to much and clean up rather than not enough in the first place I guess I'm sure I will get there the balance right soon.

In the meantime while I am adding the coats of danish oil to the middle deck I thought I would see what else I could do.

After looking ahead in the instructions I decided I would be safe doing the gratings so here is where I am;

it was fiddly work doing these, I found it easier to tape two of the corners down. Once all the parts were in place I took my CA applicator tool and rubbed it around the inside of each square to fix it all in place.

Next was to cut out the grates needed, 5 in total.

I have complete one so far, rounding off the edges slightly.

In the instructions it mentions to apply varnish, my question is what varnish would people recommend, I think I want a matt finish. Also would you recommend varnishing the danish oil sealed decks or is the oil enough on its own.

Spot on with those gratings Dave. A quick drying interior varnish will do the trick
