Still working on the cab.
Installing the windows.
In order to avoid the need to glue in the clear plastic window I am going to install a lining to the frame which I will paint. This will give a better finish then the MDF but as I am leaving a small rebate for the plastic I can avoid the chance of any glue on the plastic once installed as it will be held in place by the outer fancy cover.

When I get to the side windows I want these to work in so far as they will slide open and closed. This I will achieve (I Hope ) by again installing a lining but this time I will leave a gap down the center of the lining.

we shall see

Pictures of the Cab so far.

I have modified the side windows so they now can be open and closed

The roof is not yet attached. It is my plan to leave this as a removable item so that the inside of the cab can be viewed. Will have to modify some of the pipework but not to much. Seemed a shame to hide the inside of the cab when there is so much to see.

I have not yet attached the transfers, will leave this for later to avoid damage

Now to continue with the tender and smoke stack. Been leaving this as I intend to use a ponce wheel to create the rivet effect where required. Not used one before so this will be interesting/challenging. I have been trying out the wheel on some offcuts from the model. The Trick seems to be make sure the item to be marked is firmly attached to the bench or else the row of "rivets" tends to wander. Also make only one pass with the wheel and don't rush it

More later

That is looking great Gil.Superb work on the boiler plate and dials.I think mine is going to be a lighter blue.I am now second guessing if I should go darker.I will hopefully be spraying the cab today if I can think of a good excuse not to clean the basement prior to asbestos removal.

The Blue I used is French Blue from Admiralty Paints mainly because I had some left over from my Victory Build but I like the result

When you spray paint if you use water based paint do you dilute, if so what ratio do you use. I am thinking of starting spraying rather than brush paint but have no experience of this.

The dials for the cab are transfers and they seemed easy enough to attach, will be interesting to see if the larger transfers are as straight forward

Looks good GilBigGrin

Admiralty paint is quite thick so I have sprayed it with thinners 50/50 - you can use water also. The consensus of opinion is that it need to be the consistency of skimmed milk. I generally dab a spot on the side of the mixing jar,it should be thin enough to run down the sideBigGrin

Have started with the ponce wheel to produce the "Rivet" effect

So far I am happy with the results, will be interested to see how it looks after painting

when I airbrush I often use Vallejo paints which are acrylic and prethinned. When I use Tamiya I thin the paint to the consistency of 2% milk and keep checking the tip for clogging.Gloss paints generally need more thinner than flat paints.

Most of the painting I am doing on the Jupiter is Tamiya lacquer paint sprayed directly form the cans.
The cab interior will be brush painted with Citadel paints.I will probably use my airbrush for clear coating.

I am worried about the large transfers too.I think it may be tough to get them lined up properly and they may tear as you peel off the backing paper if they are not wet enough.

Those rivets look great.I found it hard to get good straight lines using a pounce wheel but you seem to have mastered it.

I am using rivet decals.I have applied a couple of coats of semi gloss black to the chimney and now I will apply the decals and overspray a final coat of paint.Same on the tender and boiler.

We will see how well the decals work.

Been working on the Smoke Stack and Part of the tender

The smoke stack has some 38 components Wood for the frame and metal and plastic for the covers.

The metal needs the addition of "Rivets" My first attempt with a ponce wheel
and the small handles on each side have to be made up. The Kit includes brass wire which needs to be straighted out so I have put this away and am using brass rods.

The tender also has a wood frame which needs to be covered with metal sheets. again "Rivets" need to be added (ponce wheel again) Some minor filling will be required before I proceed to paint

Happy with the results so far. have been prevaricating with this part of the build as my practise attempts with the wheel did not go well, but as they say practise makes perfect, well better

Looks great Gil.I have started applying the rivet decals on the chimney. They are a bit fiddly to apply, but I think they will look OK once overcoated

Been busy painting and applying the transfers supplied with this model

Not the easiest of jobs. The larger of the transfers where easier but the thin lines are fragile and after several attempts and damaged transfers I went to plan B, that is to replace all the thin lines particularly on the cab with home made lines of brass rods, took longer but was easier on my blood pressure.

Will need to touch up the paint work particularly on the cab as the attempt to add the transfer and their subsequent removal and caused some minor damage to the paint work.

Some of the transfers are also "home made" as the original logos did not show up too well against the paintwork.

Once I am happy with the paint job on the cab I will be adding the boiler to the cab and installing both on the train chassis, lots of fiddly bits to add then

looking GREAT Gil. I really like the metal rod for the detail parts.I may do the same on mine. You did a great job with the large transfers.

I am STILL waiting on a delivery of cobalt blue paint.I guess it is manufactured on Pluto or something since it is taking so loing to get here.

Now that is definitely starting to look like a train. Those piston rails were are real pain to work with. They bend too easily.
