Hi All Sheathing continues, I thought that a better explanation of how I added the plank that runs along the top of the copper sheathing was called for as when I did the other side I just showed pic's of it painted and it couldnt really be seen. Firstly mark the waterline with a pencil then I used evergreen 0.5 x 1 mm strip to make the plank, stick this above the waterline mark and following the pencil line across the hull. Once the glue is dry it will need about 3 coats of dull black. Simple to do and gives a line to follow at the water line for the tiles to butt up to. More soon. Hi Andy what a beautiful ship the Jotika Agamemnon is. Like all their kits, Caldercraft (Jotika) are some of the best available. I bought the Bomb vessel Granado kit many years ago which I have never actually completed, it is somewhere in the loft packed away, needing the rigging to be tackled. I don't think I have the skill levels to build such a complicated kits as the Agamemnon or their classic HMS Victory, but I will get round to finishing the Granado one day. Meanwhile, I think I can successfully finish the Hatchette U96 and other models I have yet to build. Your model is a credit to you, but how do you manage to have so many models on the go at the same time. What's the magic potion that keeps you going? Built : Robbe 1/40 scale Type XX1 Radio Controled : Scratch built 1/48 scale Ton Class Minesweeper Radio Contolled : Caldercraft (Jotika) Bomb Vessel Grando display model.

I can only agree with you on your comments about Caldrcraft kits there just top quality throughout and hopefully the Granado will get finished soon. I have no magic potion I just like to spend my time on a hobby I love and to learn from others on the forum to improve my own builds. Hi All The copper sheathing is more or less complete just the stern post to finish on the hull and the rudder to copper and mount. Once that is done it will be time to add the upper outer hull furniture and finish off the gallery's. More soon. But may i ask:
Why is there a change of pattern of the tiles at the bow?
It seems, there is a line, from which on the tiles go in a different direction.

Thanks everyone for looking in and your comments. @ Walter, its the hull shape at the bow that is the problem here, I didnt mind adding goring belts at the stern as these were often used in this area but at the bow they were kept to a minimum as it was thought it affected the ships speed. At the bow the Agamemnon is shaped for speed unlike the Santisima Trinidad or Victory which both have bulbous round front hulls to maximize deck width and therefore the ability to mount more guns. The Agamemnon bow is a complex curve that would have meant a goring line at aprox every two rows in parts and this to my eye was complex and didnt look right. The curve also prevented edge to edge placement of the tiles as this just left huge gaps and did not look scale as did overlapping the tiles this again caused a clinkering effect that again did not look right. After reading everything I could find referencing sheathing copper hulls I found there was no set pattern for adding tiles to a hull in other words each ship yard had there own methods of patterning it was just the way the tiles were nailed on that was set in stone which was that the forward edge had the next tiles edge over it thus preventing water action as the ship sailed getting underneath and pealing them off. My aim was to have continuous rows of Tiles at the bow with no goring lines to do this meant that a natural dogleg was formed at the bow at about the third hull former back this is the straight line you can see. As i have mentioned before in my research a tile pattern like this has been mentioned for this type of hull and could have been on the ship at some point in her life after her many refits. Looks great Andy you have done a great job. Copper tiling is one thing I haven't tried yet. My hulls upto now have been either painted or varnished. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.
