Hi guys,

I will soon be starting to build the Cross section and i've read ahead a little in the instructions. The first issue recommends applying some light varnish to the outer edges of rib 2 and 8 for protection.

Before I spend time looking all over for the likely 2 ml of varnish I'd need, shouldn't just using some linseed oil instead suffice?

Personally I would not use it.

Raw linseed oil takes time to dry, though the boiled version dries much faster. It seeps into the grain of the wood, giving it a perpetual wet look that accentualizes the grain of the wood, commonly referred to as "grain pop". Because of this, the color of the wood is slightly yellowed which darkens slightly with age, it also has a lack of any UV inhibitors and it can also support the growth of mildew.
