I managed to finish off the planking of the main deck today, as well as all the little fillers around the edges. I now need to cut around all the deck openings, trim and sand the planks over hanging the outside of the deck, 3 coats of Danish oil and then 3 coats of varnish. In between doing this I now need to chop more planks to start on the poop deck. You will notice near the stern of the main deck there are still gaps near the edges, I really didnt see the need to fill these as they will be impossible to see once the poop deck and grates are on.

Thanks Nightwisher Yeap there is a lot, a lot of planks oo, I think I must have chopped about 400 planks so far and still need some more for the poop deck. Here is my current progress; Today I trimmed all the planks that were over hanging and gave them a good sanding. I then applied the first coat of danish oil, at this point I realised I had missed out the treenailing  I will have to wait for the danish oil to dry now before doing them, I will then add another 2 layers of danish oil and 3 layers of varnish.

Nice progress on the planking. Just a tip there is a block of wood placed underneath the forward lower deck hatch to give a support to the ladder that goes there later in the build as you have several issue's forward of where you are now it might be a good idea and easyer to place it inside on the lowest deck before the hull planking goes on, just an idea. Regards Andy Thanks Andy, great tip with the block, I shall get that In pretty soon, after looking at the instructions I can see how it would be much easier to get it in now

Planking of all the decks is now complete. The main deck had its third coat of Danish Oil this morning so its all done. Today I planked the poop (  sorry couldnt help it) deck and poop deck 'bulkhead'. These have been given there first coat of Danish Oil. With the first coats I am using a Danish Oil and White Spirit mix to help soak into the wood. The poop deck and bulkhead as well as the grates are just dry fitted for the picture. Hardwood strips added around main deck opening, and will be added to the poop deck where it overhangs the main deck once the 'oiling' has finished I have now just about finished Stage 14.

Another coat of danish oil applied, last coat will go on tomorrow In the meantime I looked ahead in the instructions to see what other bits I could do. I ended up building up the first set of stairs, these go up to the poop deck from the main deck and down into the holes near the poop deck. I have a questions with regards to varnish, the manual advises applying a clear varnish to these. The only varnish I have is the Ronseal Matt which isnt really matt and has a slight shine to it. Can anyone recommend a matt clear varnish to use, I have been thinking and I think I want the overal finish to be matt.

Nicely done , as for a flat varnish I have been using this one from Hannants for a while now. If watered down with about 25% water it sprays very well, although when brushed it can tend to foam a little so I just spray it now. http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/XA1FF
