Here are the 3D printed parts for the hold...all painted up and ready for my next shipment from DeAg. I am reasonably happy with the way they turned out. If you zoom in on the nav console, you can see some of the graininess. I suppose I could have sanded a bid on the side, but the detail on the front was too small to sand. When issues 4-8 come, I will play with the OOB nav console and see what I can do with it. Now I just need to weather the floor grating and figure out what to do with that double light on the couch.

Thanks Galactiboy, you're spot on about the quality, the floor and the bench are very smooth, but the nav console is a bit rough. From a distance it looks great, but close up, you can see the layers. That makes it a bit hard to paint. I am going to give the OOB console a go and see if I can make something out it. Looking at what some of the extremely talented people around here have done with it, good paint apps make a world of difference.

I also ordered a set of "Hall Bits" for the hold area. It's a bunch of barrels and crates and stuff to clutter up the hold a bit.

As for resolution, most parts come in high and ultra-high. The higher the resolution, the higher the price. The one I ordered was Frosted Ultra Detail and it cost $21.90. Was hoping for a bit better, but I think that is the limit of the technology. Not saying anything bad about the vendor, he has some really beautiful stuff on Shapeways.

That's interesting... Odd how that would look so different compared to the other parts from the same vendor.

Thanks for the reply, I may wait on the computer then, but I like the barrel set and a few other bits. Considering the floor, but not sure I want to cut out a chunk of the kit to install it.

I read on one of his comments he'll be doing the crew as well, so I'll definitely pick up any of those he decides to make.

I am definately thinking of playing around with fiber. I have never lit a model, but if ever I was going to try something new, it would be on this one

Well, got back from vacation and went straight to work on the parts that arrived the day before we left . Had fun cutting up the OOB couch and bunk so that I could line up the Shapeways couch with the factory bunk. Did a bit of weathering on the floor but I'm not thrilled with it. Looks a bit streaky. Think I'll try that one again. Overall, I think it's turning out ok. The graininess of the 3D printed parts bothers me a bit, but that only shows up in pictures. When viewed from a couple of feet away, it looks great.

I just got another shipment of Shapeways parts. I got the hallway bits (barrels and boxes to clutter up the main hold), Obi-wan's uncomfortable looking chair, the bunk end panel and the pipe and supports that go along the wall that the bunk backs up to (opposite wall from the pipes and supports that are included).

But I have a question. Does anyone know if there is going to be enough room to push that wall out by about an inch? If I put the pipe and supports in, it covers the bunk end panel. But if I could push that wall out a bit, the panel would be visible, like in the movie.

I've included a pic of the piece so you can see which one I'm talking about. If it's a problem that I posted a photo of the part, please someone tell me and I'll take it down.

This may all have to wait until we are further along to see if I can make it all fit.

Looking very nice. I dont think you need to have too much weathering and am starting to lean against too much weathering on mine. Down to personal preference though and what look you are after .

If you get a slightly lighter grey and spray some in the middle of the walls as a highlight that would help to break up all the german grey

Well, I played around with my Shapeways quad cannon this weekend. I'm happy with the way it turned out. Painted it flat black first, then Insignia white. Weathered it with Tamiya's weathering pastels. I think I will play with it a bit more.

The difference in colour for the last couple shots is strictly lighting. Looks really yellow when I move it away from my task lighting at my table. I guess I'm helping make Steve Dymzso's point about colour being a moving target.

Charles, the part claims to be a replica of the ESB Falcon but I have a hard time confirming that. Looking at reference photos, I have found a lot of inconsistencies. I will see reference shots that claim to be from the 32" ESB filming model that are different from other shots that claim to be the same model. It's hard to say which cannon is more accurate. I like the materials of the 3D printed cannon better than the metal that came OOB, but that's just a personal preference because I suck at metals .

MM, I really like it. Great detail on it.
