BigGrin Nicely done , as for a flat varnish I have been using this one from Hannants for a while now. If watered down with about 25% water it sprays very well, although when brushed it can tend to foam a little so I just spray it now.

Cheers Andy, I didnt stop to think to use an acrylic varnish that you use on plastic models on wood, I have a big bottle of Vallejo matt in the cupboard so will give thst a try on a bit of scrap BigGrin

Nice job on the steps. They a much better quality than the one supplied with the sovereign.

Thanks all for your comments.

I have just applied the last layer of danish oil and a couple of layers of Vallejo Matt Resin acrylic varnish to the steps.

I have also started to shape the front ribs

I have been sailing ahead with this and making great headway LOL LOL

Hardwood strips added to edges of poop deck.

The hull was shaped for the dummy gun port strips, this was actually easier than I thought it would be, only ribs 1, 2 & 3 needed the most shaping, the rest was just a little bit of sanding required.

2 rows of dummy gun strips added and the blanking plates added too. After doing one row I decided it would be easier to add the blanking plates first and then stick the strips on.

I also flooded the fronts of the blanking plates with Super phatic glue as it runs into all the gaps and soaks into the wood, I thought this would add some extra strength.

This takes up to the start of step 25 now.

Thanks all for the comments

The upper row of dummy gun strips have now been added and really show off the shape of the hull. The bow end of the strips had to be soaked a bit to get the shape.

The gunwhales have been dry fitted and adjustments made for fitting then stained with Teak, I will do another coat before attaching.

During the drying period I have started to attach the gratings, after measuring to make sure they were in the centre I used the rulers as a guide for after I applied the glue.

BigGrin Looking great Dave, I do like the method of the pre-cut gun port strips that attach to the hull makes cutting them out so much easyer as you attach the planking[ A tip here is to cut the planks as they cover the gun ports so you dont lose them]. Also I too stained the gunwales but decided to plank them after they were fitted as it looked better to my eye but its up to you if you decide to plank.Cool

Nice job Dave, I had a bit of trouble with those gun port strips but you seem to have got them on perfectlyBigGrin Really looking good.

Thanks Steve, the strips did take me a little while to do, I did find the. Quite awkward and a pain to do but am very happy with the reassurance they look perfect as they were a worry BigGrin

Thanks Andy, I will remember the tip with the gun ports. I've had a look through your diary again and see what you mean about the planking of the gun whales, it does look much better. I might have to copy that too Cool

Hi Dave, Looks like a mighty fine build so far, I do like the precut gunport idea, I wish the sovereign had them.Saves a load of time and hassle marking out the little blighters.
