Thanks all for looking inBigGrin

There have been a couple of probs with the content included in the kit - it's one of those "just enough wood" kits - I had enough wood to get the planking done but not enough left to do some other bits that it's required for. Also had no 2x3 lime or 0.6x5 walnut so had to borrow and improvise.

Basically, I'm kind of going it alone now, using whatever wood I have enough of and in a colour that suits the job.

The transom is now planked (in the correct wood) as is the stern deck section. The ribs were supposed to be 3mm lime but I have had to use just over 4mm lime so they look a bit beefier that's allBigGrin Incidentally, the wood I used for the ribs came in the kit and I cant see anywhere else for it's use so I think this was supplied instead of the 3mmConfused

The more I read the instructions the more I find wrong - make it more fun though....dosent itLaugh

I agree, also had the same problem with my Arab dhow, and had to buy more strips from CMB before I could move on and finish it. I don't want to grouch about it too much, but it can't be so hard for them to check that the correct sizes are going into the box - maybe it's what a friend of mine would call a 'Friday afternoon' job (although he was referring to cars at the time but the same thing could apply to kits)- they must realise that mistakes are going to happen with strips of wood and supply an extra percentage accordingly.
You're doing a great job with it however Steve, your experience shows. Look forward to the next instalment
Happy building

Thanks guys, It'll teach me to use the parts checklist next timeLaugh

Not sure if I mentioned earlier but this will be a weathered build - I will be aging the wood as I go along with the build to make sure I can get to all areas before it gets too cluttered.

I plan to first "silver" the wood with a homemade weathering solution which is an Iron oxide vinegar brushed on - as this is a chemical aging process it leaves the wood open and able to take any stains or oils at a later stage but Id like to get away with just a dye mix or oil if possible.

The pics show just a layer of the oxide mix on the inside only to age the wood.

Thanks for your commentsBigGrin

I have now started work on filing the spaces in the deck, this is quite time consuming as each space has to be measured out for a nice fit. Im not sure if, in the real boat, these were removable hatches as thats the way Im making them appear by leaving a small gap around each oneConfused

4 of the cutouts are to be gratings with 8 of them being solid panels made up of 2mm thick walnut, the footgrips are also walnut.

The hatches are not yet aged or sanded, I will do this as one job when they are all fitted.

The wood is currently screaming out for some oil or dye to pop the grain out but I will resist this until a bit later Laugh

Also, the inside rails have been fitted across the ribs, these will also have a nail head in each joint.

More soonBigGrin

Not a very exciting update, 4 more of the deck panels are in place. The 2 remaining spaces are for gratings which are coming next. I need to work out the best way to build up and cut the gratings as I have a feeling I have been supplied with the bare minimum so wastage is not an optionBigGrin

More soon,
