Thanks again for the nice comments All gratings are done now, had enough material in the end with a couple to spare. Im now in the process of fitting the fillets of 2x2 between the ribs at deck level. Also shaped and fitted the mast support block. Next job is to pin each joint of the internal rails and then its time to fit and shape the handrail. Cheers for looking in! stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Thanks for looking A bit more progress, First the pins were sprayed black to look more like iron nails, I find brass blackener isnt too good on brass pins but Im quite happy with how they look painted Next, it was time to chop down the planks to fit the curved piece of the handrail - this was supplied in the kit as a wooden ring that needed to cut to fit. Better than trying to bend a wood strip though The handrail itself is made of 3.5x10mm lime strip so there was no way this was going to be curved laterally with steam etc. The instructions showed this should be made up using trapezoid pieces of wood to form the curve, I also made the the more pronounced curve from cutting slots into the strip to form the bend. It went pretty well but it then needed painting as if Id used a stain it would have been much darker at the grain in the joints so not really an option. I like the black anyway and seeing as this will be mainly natural wood,a bit of paint here and there will set it off nicely stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Phew!! Steve, every time I look in this build gets even more awesome. There's some remarkably skilled work going on there, and I have to agree that the hand rail painted black really sets off all the 'natural' wood. Well done happy building David

Cheers for looking in guys Have now done the wales, swivel gun posts and the stern benches. The instructions say to fit the benches first and then the gun posts but this would have been more difficult as you need to cut out notches in both the bench and post to fit. There are ply benches supplied but I cut some new ones from walnut and smoothed them down to look worn on the edges. There is a bench support to go in yet which fits on top of the bench to secure it to the gun post. More soon! Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):
