BigGrin Hi All

As some of you already know I do like my flying wings and came across this one, It is of a real aircraft that was designed by Arado to a specification from the German flight ministry in 1944 asking for a fast bomber to be designed that would be capable of carrying a 4000 kg bomb load to the American continent. Powered by 6 BMW jet engines and defended by two remote control barbets at the front and rear, plus 2 more guns in the front wings it had a good capability to defend itself. Unfortunatly work was stopped on the project due to a lack of raw materials at the time. This aircraft and the Go 229, the latter being tested extensively by Northrop in 2009 after being asked to do so by the National Geographic Channel it was discovered that the Go 229 had a 20% lower reflection rate to radar this compared to aircraft at the time would mean detection was achieved with only 8 minutes warning compared with 19 minutes for a B17 at the time so these two aircraft can really be called the original stealth bombers.

I am not sure if this is a new kit or its been around for a while but it was new to me. the Kit has 3 major sprue's in grey plastic all nicely moulded with little flash and the clear parts being the fourth sprue. The instructions are printed on newspaper type paper with two versions given at the back for the paint job. A nice colour print would be an improvement here instead of reylying on the box art for the painting. The decals provided are Revell's usual standard but no etch parts and I have looked but cant source any. All in all a nice little kit that will build into something unusual.

Regards

That's a nice kit Andy, I believe it's a fairly recent release from a couple of years ago and from what I've read in other build reviews on the 'net it is known as a good kit with accurate fitting parts and a fairly straightforward build with few problems? One of Revell's better kits apparently.

I really like these quirky end of the war German machines and this one looks very interesting, I'll be watching to see how you get on with the build - well done and thanks for posting the diary. Cool ThumpUp

That is an interesting looking plane, one that I have not seen before.

According to scalemates it was originally from 1998 and reboxed in 2012 if that helps. There are some really good reviews about this kit too Cool

BigGrin Hi Kev and Dave

Thanks both for looking in and your comments and thanks Dave for clarifying its vintage. All the Late and pre war German exotics have always facinated me as have ships like the American civil war iron clads.

BigGrin Hi Alan

Thanks for looking in and your comments, when you think about it our so called advances such as the the moon landings and todays stealth aircraft all can be traced back to the 2nd WW and most of it not from our side, funny that

A couple of nice builds of this kit below Andy:

http://www.hyperscale.co...tures/2000/e555ic_1.htm

http://modelingmadness.c...cott/axis/luft/e555.htm

I particularly like the 'grey mottled blotches' scheme in the first one with the green engine intakes? What a great looking aircraft this is and I can see distant elements of the Avro Vulcan in there somewhere too?!

Some interesting (if brief) info on the subsequent development of the Ar 555 series of airframes:

http://www.luft46.com/arado/are555s.html

Good luck with the build Andy, I'm sure it's going to be fun and you've tempted me to look at getting one myself in the near future!! Cool ThumpUp

No problem Andy it was a pleasure, as you've gotten me very interested in this aircraft and I love researching stuff. The painting info contained within those two articles should help you as well, as I recall you said the box art was about the only useful info provided with the kit?

I'm very much looking forward to the start of your build now!! Drool Cool ThumpUp
