Thanks for the tip, Alan. I wasn't sure if water would actually work, and remembered my dad using vinegar to un-glue a chair leg long long ago. Water would be preferable though, as it smells a whole lot better than vinegar.

I'm glad I spotted the problem before reaching a point where repairing it would have been more difficult. But, also a little disappointed that I didn't catch it when I was installing it. I was so focused on keeping it square to the keel that I didn't notice. But, it really was a good lesson. I'll be more observant in the future.

In my limited experience it looks to me like the top of your bow section looks fine because you have sanded down to the frames, but the bottom of the bow section could do with a bit more, you wont truly know until you get it on the false keel with a few ribs on and run a plank around it to see how it sits, i can only put a picture up of what i've done recently to give you a comparison.

Hi Broven, I have to agree with Gibbo and wait until all the ribs have been fitted before taking any more off. Then you can fair all all the frames at the same time to get a nice flowing curve.

Hi Tim, good progress to say the least.... Agree with what's already been said, you do need to continue to shape the bow some more however, I wouldn't do any more just yet until you are ready to start the planking phase. When you get to that stage you will be fairing all of the hull so you will be able to see clearer how the shapes of the bow and the stern will be. A look at the same stage here on my build should give you clearer idea..... ..

Doing a cracking job there Tim...

I've been a little lax on the photo's during the work week, but I've been making fair progress. Thought I would post a few pics now just to mark my progress.

The hull is essentially as done as it can be until my next package arrives. I was really happy to find that the deck pieces just slid right in. I honestly expected that step to reveal alignment errors, but I guess all the fiddling with squaring paid off. (Sigh of relief...)




Here's a tighter shot of the cannons and anchor. I used the dark bronze paint from Admirality (it finally arrived from the UK this week), and made my first attempt at dry brushing to add a bit of black to darken it down a touch further. I need some practice at that technique lol. They aren't the best cannons I have seen, but I'm actually happy with the result (I think). I also used a little light stain on the anchor crossbar to give it some age.





A close-up of the launch frame. I should be ready to start straking tonight. A little nervous about that step, to be honest.





I've also yet to start on making the blocks. Another task I'm nervous about as the pieces are so tiny. My 2nd shipment is supposed to include a magnifying glass with helping hands on it as a free gift, so I think I'll wait for that before attempting these. In the meantime, I found a good use for an old pill-reminder to hold all the little bits and bobs.

Hi Tim, great work you're showing.... The fact that your false decks slid straight in with no adjustments shows the care and attention you are paying and that will stand you in good stead as the build progresses... Don't be concerned about planking the launch, judging by yours skills so far I cannot see you having too much of a problem so enjoy the experience..... .. Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming.....
