Nice work Paul.

It may not be a good idea to sand the planks too much, as you go, though. They are not very thick and it may be easy to over do it.

I know it tempting but better to wait until the end when you can treat it as the next project.

Thank you for the advice John much appreciated, and thank you for the magazine index you have created, i started using it last week and has come in very handy, it's a great piece of kit.
Cheers
Paul

Excellent fairing Gibbo you can't go wrong with the planking on a base like that.

When cutting out the forward gun ports with balsa behind them, cut them out as you normally would cutting the shape of the port with the centre hole and the triangle cross cuts, then using your dremmel with a ball attachment insert it into the hole and start working behind the planking on the balsa from the centre out, bits of the triangles will start to come away, take your time and keep going, don't use the Dremmel on the outside edges of the ports, always work behind them so you don't round anything off and the triangles will just pop out, sand off the sides as you normally would, paint black, job done.

Planking done up to layer 12, dummy cannon supports painted, cut and glued in place, broke the top of a couple of ribs with the sanding block while sanding but easily fixable, and then cut out the gun-ports.

Nice planking Gibbo. I like the idea of cutting gun ports as you go, much better than being faced with a huge expanse of hull and trying to mark them out as on the sovereign. Cool
