Hi there Shipmates...I have been somewhat busy for the past few weeks spending more and more time on my build. Here is my update on my progress:
I had a pig of a time trying to line the gun ports, ripping them out twice until I was happy with them:

Looking good jonny, you seem to have got loads done since last time, I know what you mean about the dodgy gratings. As for the ships wheel I have no idea where it should be or the capstan come to think of it,maybe they are below decks.

Great work Jonny, lovely to see your build progressing so well... Pleased to see you got the problems of the gallery sides sorted, I found I had the same problem on my build but was easily resolved..... I didn't experience any problems with the gratings purely because I decided to replace all mine with a smaller scale, judging by what you are saying I'm so pleased I did.... Cool Cool Cool .. Keep up the great work, she's looking great.... look forward to your next update.....

Regards

Alan

Jonny reinforcing the dummy gun walls is a really good idea, I didn't on my build and when I was fitting one of my dummy canons I heard a sound you don't want to hear, no not one direction, even worse a sickening crack .Everything seems okay though, good job I used plenty of glue ,reinforcing is definitely a good move.

Hi jonny your build is coming on a treat, you mentioned about the ships wheel or tiller I have also been trying to find information on this but I can't find anything about it as I was going to put a ships wheel on my model but I decided to leave it until I was sure what was used, will keep looking hope to resolve this Robby.

Thank you my friends for looking in and the very nice comments, they are more than welcome, thank you again. And Robby, I too have been searching for the tiller bar or wheel mode of steering the ship and as has been suggested, the steering mechanism could have been mounted below deck but looking at the design of the ship, this does not seem feasable as visibility appears to be pretty limited for below deck! If I do come across any useful information, I will gladly pass it on to you...I dare say that the Sovereign with throw up yet more little conundrums to vex us poor modellers...Happy building everyone...Take care now and catch you again soon.

Hi jonny have been looking into the steering on sots found a wright up on sots and it states ( on the orlop deck below the cammanders and officers chambers runs the rudders tiller which in them times was attached to a simple lever to control the steering as the ships wheel did not exist yet) it's thought the first wheel was introduced in 1703 or 1710 and it was placed behind the mizzen mast and above the tillers head which ment who ever was steering had his view obstructed of what lay in front of the ship ,hope this is helpful to you Jonny, Robby

Hi there Shipmates...Been busy since my last posting and wanted to share my progress on the sovereign. After adding the deck in my last posting I began to clad the front of the decks. For this I used similar size boxwood as there would have to be holes cut into it in a later issue, and boxwood was easier to work with than bamboo.
