Construction proceeds After the disaster with the decals provided for the cab for which I have now substituted brass rods I have joined the cab to the boiler. Next I have to add the Lamp, Smoke Stack and a number of other components. Once these have been added I will mount the cab/Boiler onto the chassis. There are then numerous pipes to fit, after bending to shape. Of all the parts of this build the decals provided are the worst and I am not the only one to find this. I found them to be too involved/fragile particularly for the cab. Having said that the details of the rest of the kit are excellent I am also at present making the wheel guards which is not as easy as it might sound. The guards consist of a flat metal piece which needs to be bent to fit, in addition a length of copper rod is then attached to the edge of the guard. This will be fun, still thinking as to how I can hold the pieces together whilst the glue dries with out sticking them to my fingers. There is a fair bit of bending of metal in this kit. I used a number of different sized plumbing fixtures as formers 15mm, 22mm and 28mm. Using these I was able to bend all the metal to the required shape without any kinks More to follow Gil GilShapley attached the following image(s): Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

Well this seems to work As I mentioned before part of the build requires a brass strip attached to the edge of the wheel arch I used small pegs (useful as small clamps) to hold the brass in place and spot glued the brass in place. Once that had dried I removed the pegs and added additional glue along the inner edge. Now just need to trim the brass to length GilShapley attached the following image(s): Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

That is a great idea Gil.I am totally stealing that for applying the rims to the wheelguards.

This build has slowed somewhat due to Grandfather duties and now its time for a Holiday. A Cruise down the Rhine. There is in fact not too much left to do. The smoke stack, and other components for the top of the tank have been completed There is some rather fiddly pipework to complete on the Boiler but this can wait until after my holiday What was driving me mad was attaching the supplied transfers which in the end I gave up with some and replaced with brass rods of various thickness and bent to shape The wheel guards have brass edges attached and it took me a week to figure out a practical way to achieve this (see previous posts) Now looking forward to my week off and will return refreshed and ready to complete GilShapley attached the following image(s): Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

Up to date photos attached, not far to go now Am having to modify some parts as I go along as my decision to use brass rod in place of the transfers supplied has caused one or two minor problems, mainly because the brass stands proud of the surface and not flat like the transfers. Not a major problem just requires a bit of patience and my dremil to grind down the components to fit. Once again I have used brass rod and not the brass supplied with model which I find too soft and not easy to straighten out, to give the finish I would like. The end of the rods on the top of the boiler have a round ball on the end. Those supplied are too small so I have raided my wife's sewing box (again) she uses some pins which have a small rounded end (3mm). These are ideal and as they are plastic easy to drill out to fit the rod ends. Paint them gold and jobs a goodun. I will have some minor repair work to do on the paint finish, Some of the components are robust some are not so care is required.
