It's been a while since I last updated, I really should try and keep up to date. Rear deck structure paintingThe structures were painted tan (Humbrol No. 9), I then masked around the edge detail and painted them black (humbrol No. 1) Picture 1-2 Tow ropesThe tow ropes were made by coiling thin thread around the thicker thread and using PVA glue to seal make sure it stays in position Picture 3 The ropes were passed through the bulkhead and knotted to keep them in place. Four blocks were formed and added to bulkhead as guides Picture 4 The exposed frames were painted to match the bulkhead Picture 5 michael.rolph attached the following image(s):

Upper structureThe main upper structure is removable so it can be built separately from the rest of the ship. The pieces were removed and cleaned up. The cabin doors had to have the holes expanded in order to fit the portholes Picture 1-2 The rest of the cabin was assembled and the inside painted white. Picture 3 The rear of the cabin has exhaust ports, these ports are formed using a thin wood strip. The interior of the exhaust is a transfer. The shape of the exhaust was copied onto a piece of paper, then transferred to the wood panel. The wood strips were then cut to length and glued to the panel Picture 4-6 michael.rolph attached the following image(s):

Second deckThe second deck was glued in place. Picture 1 The deck has sections of railing around the edge. In order to easily fit the railing posts I need to pre-drill the holes. Tracing paper was used to get the positions from the plans and then the paper was overlayed on the model and a drill bit used to mark the positions. The holes were then drilled out. Picture 2-5 Lower cabinThe lower cabin was then glued in place. Picture 6 michael.rolph attached the following image(s):

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Completing the lower deckI finished painting and fitting the stairs to the lower cabin. Picture 1-2 Because I didn't paint the inside of the lower cabin I didn't want to be able to see the unpainted walls on the other side of the ship. Using some black card I made a tray that would fit inside space. If I don't like how this looks when the model is complete I plan on removing it. Picture 3 Next I glued the deck in place

WheelhouseThe next step was the construction of the wheelhouse. I identified all the required components and cleaned them up. Picture 1 The rear of the wheelhouse has a set of exhausts these were built using the same method as the previous exhausts. Picture 2 The components were then painted and assembled. Picture 3-5

Wheelhouse ladderThe next level of the wheelhouse has a set of ladders on one side. The rungs are made from a spool of copper wire. Picture 1 In order to make the rungs I made a simple jig out of two layers of scrap wood, a small cut was made on one edge and a hole drilled at the desired width of the rung. Picture 2 One end of the wire is pushed through the hole (trying not to spear your finger doing so) then bent to go down the cut on the other edge. I used a pair of plyers to flatten the wire against the jig. The wire is then cut and removed from the jig. Picture 3-4 The positions of the rungs were marked on the wall and the holes were pre-drilled. Super glue was used to secure the rungs in place. Picture 5-6

I've had a productive few days and made some progress Wheelhouse InstrumentsI have finished assembling and painting the wheelhouse instrument panels and downloaded some images of instrument panels and printed them on photo paper. Picture 1 There is an opening in the wheelhouse floor that requires a banister rail, I used three sections on a matchstick for the corner and endpost and pieces of cocktail sticks for the other posts. Picture 2-3 The doors on the wheelhouse will slide open, I used scrap sections for the rails. Picture 4 File Attachment(s): michael.rolph attached the following image(s):
