Wasn't sure where to put this thread. My order has shipped and should be here in the next week or so. I probably won't start building right away. I am half way through a Gundam build that I have been working on since November and I want to finish it first.
However I would like to start discussing ideas and thoughts on mods and customizations for the Falcon. First off I don't want to build the Falcon. Everyone else is building the Falcon, so I want to do a different YT-1300. By doing this I can do an alternate color scheme, or make changes to the outside, and interior so that its unique. Plus it will have the added benefit that if I use any parts that aren't "movie accurate" its easily explained away. Though, most people that will see it when they are over at the house probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway.
Ok so to the point I have a few items to start with. Looking for others input as well. Always good to have different view points.
1. The cockpit. This one has got me on the fence. I have seen the items available from shapeways and they are amazing. However, I am concerned that most of those towards the back may not even get seen once its inside the cabin. On top of that, I have been reading a lot of build diary's on multiple forums and I have seen some people make the cockpit parts included in the set look amazing. So just not certain on this one.
2. The Crew Cabin. Originally I wasn't planning on even worrying about the interior. I had planned to mount this thing on the wall using the wall mount. It would look nice to have it flying, and would free up display space in the room. The other part of me thinks it would be cool for people to come over see the model, and after the wow factor of the size wears off, open it up and shock them some more. Plus after all the BD reading I have seen people do some cool stuff with random parts they had lying around. This section I wouldn't mind going crazy with detail stuff, but still not worrying about "movie accurate"
3. Exterior color scheme. Like I said above I would like to not build the Falcon to be different and unique. Do I try and build something in cannon, or just go my own unique name/color scheme route? If I stayed in cannon I was thinking maybe doing the "Star of Tion".
4. Build it new. Most everyone is weathering and going with the used look. I have seen few that are actually new looking. Maybe its not new, maybe its been restore/repaired? It would actually be a challenge to fill in all the blaster holes and asteroid damage. Its not out of the realm of reality that someone in the Star Wars universe is a collector of starships that they repair and keep on display in a warehouse/hanger.
Just a few ideas I am mulling over. Got others, but some of them I wanna keep hush hush for the moment.
