It's dead easy mate, paint your base colour first(imagine how deep the water is, the deeper the darker the water will apear) ( mine is on a coastal waters so not particularly deep)if you need to remove the ship as with this(to change the batteries, or with my Warspite dio, to make it easier to transport)wrap the hull in cling film, so the sealant dosn't stick to it, if the ship is not to be removed don't worry about the cling film. Get some clear bathroom sealant and spread it over your PREVIOUSLY PAINTED base it needs to be deeper where the bow and port and starboard sides then with a spoon push into the sealant and drag in the direction of the wave with a rapid upwards movement and you will get a peak with a bendy over bit like the tip of a wave as you get farther away from the ship the waves should get less rough, after you have it roughly how you want it use different tools to get finer waves also you can let it go off then add more hight to bow waves as needed. Hope you understand what I've said, I could do a pictorial guide of how I do it if not. I am sure others on here could teach you more realistic effects.ps sorry forgot to add paint the tips of the waves with white paint. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Thanks mate,I thought you had used one of those fancy water effect products. Knowing you used bathroom sealant makes it even more impressive. Fab Ken, water effect breaking the bow is just stunning.... superb work there.... .. How you can think you couldn't do a wooden ship build is beyond me, your skills here make me firmly believe you could do one without too much problem. You have the patience and the eye for detail, think you should have a go..... Regards Alan

I have in the past built wooden ships, all my scratch built ships were wooden and I've done amarti's brumer yacht which was plank on frame, but they are all leagues away from SOS, not a build I would undertake without a lot of skill updates, take my hat off to you and anyone else attempting that epic and majestic build. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

I can see where you're coming from Ken and fully understand, but remember, the one additional asset you have available to you now is the great help and advice from the members of this forum that would keep you on track all the way.... Hi all looking at the Airfix rigging instructions and they seemed basic to say the least so did some searching on the net and found a set you could download, I have no idea where to start (talk about complicated) makes the Airfix ones very tempting. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Hi ken, still mesmerized by that water,as for the rigging at this scale you may have to compromise and do a simplified version or it may become overcrowded. Maybe the stays, Backstays and the lifts.I remember the shrouds in these kits being a pain, both the rubberery things and that rigging contraption.
