Now to finish up this delivery I first changed one of the brake disks for a new one with a better (looser) fit to the driveshaft. Then the enginge halves were screwed together and the gear covers installed for phase 4. Note the last screw is very very very tiny. You'll preferably want to use a watch makers screwdriver for this one.  That's this delivery done. Remember the number plate contest is still open and the chosen text doesn't necessarily have to do with me. If you want to have "JASE=GOD" or "MR. T #1" on there, sure, why not?

Stage 5 - Drivers seat frame Got my next delivery, but as I'm currently on sick leave we can't end stage 4 properly (putting on the plate numbers) as the parts are in the office. I also want to source some better decals for the plate numbers, I don't like the red on white. Also also, it's kinda weird how they stop building stages right in the middle then continue with the next delivery. Anyways on to stage 5  We get the left front seat frame, a billion rubber bands and lots and lots of very tiny metal hooks. Yes that's right, we're actually going to build our own seats. Never seen anyone do this before and I simply love it. We also get a cheap junk tweezer (not pictured because why would anyone use these things?) Building the seat is simplicity itself, we just fit a rubber band with two metal hooks then hook the hooks into the rings at the back of the seat. Well, simplicity itself if you ignore the suggestion to use the tweezers for the job. If you are, stop what you're doing right now, slowly lay down the tweezers and get some narrow flat pliers. Soon you'll end up with the seat frame looking like this. It is awesome.

Love how the seats have to assembled with the hooks and bands, really does add that extra bit of detail

Phase 4b, 6 and a bonus So today I woke up and finally knew that there really is only one possible thing that could actually be on the license plates, so I could finally finish phase 4b.  It's only logical reallyPhase 6 was simply building another tyre. Had those already, this is the part I don't like about car builds.  So now for something more interesting. After making the license plate contest kinda moot (sorry about that), we're going to try another interactive part.  With this delivery we get our first gift, which is this cute little baggy to safely transport tools in like screwdrivers and so on. It's about 15cm long and 9 centimeters wide, made of heavy fabric, a velcro flap and Charleston colors. And I don't need it. I'm having a tools bag custom made right now, so I'm going to give this one away. How to claim your prize? Tell me a funny anecdote that happened to you. It has to do something with modeling. Best (and by best I mean funniest to me) story gets the bag. This contest is open world wide until the end of October. Be prepared I will ask the winner to send me his adress by PN, so if you don't want some weird Internet guy to know where you live, you probably shouldn't participate.

Funny anecdote you say... Let's see. January 1st 2015. I'm waking up way earlier than my SWMBO and go down to the kitchen. Clearing the throat, testing... Yep, the voice has a bit of New Years rasp. I get a glass of water. Another one. Put the kettle on, coffee is a must. I think to myself: let's start this year with some modelling to set the tone for the rest of it. I get my 1/8 Revell Jaguar E-type out of the box. It's my second model I'm working on after a 20 year break. I have the engine done, time to paint some body panels. I get a large box to use as a spray booth, two cans of Halfords red primer I bought a few days earlier, turn on all the lights I have available, set up the parts and start spraying. One mist layer, second mist later - dries fast - then a proper coat. This is a 1/8 model, the panels are large, I'm almost done with the first can. Anna comes down from our bedroom; I can hear the steps creaking as she goes down to the kitchen. I'm quite happy with my first spray job on such a scale. - Honey, why the air is red? Actually why the kitchen is red? - Whaaaat? I realise that the build-up in the air happened so gradually I haven't even noticed it. The air is heavy with a red mist. There is a red dust everywhere. The primer overspray hangs in every cubic foot of the kitchen and covers every square meter of every available surface. I'm so stunned I mix up metric with imperial. Daaamn! I grab a mop and some old towels and run to bathroom to damp them (the kitchen sink is full of the dishes from out NY Eve dinner, noticeably more reddish than the day before). My bare feet leave cute red tracks (size eleven) on the hallway carpet. Yep. The tone for the rest of the year has been set. (Anna's a definite keeper, I'm still allowed to model in the kitchen) Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.

Stage 7  With this stage we get the wheel carriers and steering knuckles. Take care to identify the parts correctly and they go together easily and we soon end up with this:  Remember there's still a tool bag to be won until the end of the month.

C'mon guys, didn't you glue yourself to something expensive at least once? Didn't you attach your Spitfire wings to F-16 by mistake? I used to drive one of these beauties when I was stationed in Germany with the RAF in the early 90's. I brought it for my wife as a second car but she preferred to drive my Dodge Ram, so I was relegated to the 2CV which I have to admit was fun to drive, and being in the same livery as the model I am seriously considering subscribing.
My claim to fame whilst driving her was to be caught for speeding by the German Police which caused quite a lot of barracking from those I worked with.
I will be following this build with interest

Stage 8 is another of the weird ones. We get another part, but continue with stage 7 building instructions. The build then directly goes to stage 9.  The beautiful door we get for this stage. The lacquer on the outer side is perfect, there's a bit of a trouble spot on the inner side, but I think I'll be able to camouflage this as soon as I find out what colour was originally used for this Charleston edition. As for building, we simply screw the tyres to the carriers and add the hubcaps. And now the next thing happens that I have not seen in a car model partwork before. The instructions will occasionally feature optional parts that offer a chance to upgrade the model. In this first installment they advice you to repaint the tyre valves in black (was already done on my model for some reason) and to repaint several molded "screws" in aluminium, which of course I did (the little silver spots in the picture below)  All in all I'm getting more excited about this model by the minute. Unfortunately further updates will have to wait for a replacement delivery to arrive, because the stage 9 parts arrived a little bit broken and by a bit I mean a lot. You'll like it though because things are about to get superdetailed.
