Thanks Ian, we'll get there eventually; I'm still waiting for my last resin parts to arrive from Germany. There's been a bit of to'ing and fro'ing because of these parts which were ordered in June but not expedited. It's always difficult when there are problems like this. I sent a letter (recorded) and followed with 2 emails a fortnight later. Finally I Skyped him but there was the language barrier to contend with - he didn't speak English and I don't speak German, but from giving him my order number and name, I think we've got it sorted now. Like I said, we'll get it sorted eventually, but it is worrying when a supplier you are using closes his website down and you're not able to access your account details any more. Happy building David

BUILD UPDATE #47
Hi again friends. Thanks for the comments left, much appreciated. Continuing from the preparation work done in update #46, the cladding for the right-hand side of the removable deck section is going to be fixed into place. The removable deck section was placed in position on the hull and the cladding parts,#85,#86,#87,#88 and #89 were glued to the structure using 'Zap' thick CA glue. First, part #85 was fixed into place at the bow end followed by #89 at the stern end, making sure that they sat correctly on the top of the saddle tanks before glueing, and #88, #87 and #86 in the intervening space working forward to meet up with #85. I had to do a little remedial work at the joins where the horizontal frames of the deck were very slightly out of line and needed a bit of work with a small file to line up and allow the cladding parts to slot in correctly, but apart from that, the work went very smoothly. Well, that's it for this one. Thanks for looking in and thanks again for the positive comments. Till next time, happy building Daviddaffy09 attached the following image(s):

Thanks Kev, it's all down to that 'Tamiya Super Fine Cement' you recommended. I've been using it on all the slots, it really makes a superb job of finishing off the rough edges and giving a nice smooth finish. thanks for the feedback. Happy building David

Thanks Jase, yes, it's had it's moments and I guess there will be a lot more interesting challenges over the next 2 years of building it - all of which I'm looking forward to. Happy building David

BUILD UPDATE #48
Welcome back to this weeks update, and thanks to all for the positive comments. Issue #48 came with a sprue containing 3 plastic cladding panels (#91,#92, and #94)and together with the 2 parts from issue #47 (parts #90 and #93) make up the 5 panels to clad the left-hand side of the removable deck section. After removing the parts from the sprues, they were cleaned up to remove any excess plastic, and the flood slots opened up with a 1.5mm and a 2.0mm drill, and using a scalpel and a micro file cleaned up the openings and finished them off with the Tamiya Ultra fine cement. Next week sees them being fitted to the deck structure. A little update on the torpedo room enhancement: I have now received the last resin pieces from Germany, and I'm now waiting for some Vallejo paints to arrive from 'eModels' so I can start work on painting all the sections which have already had a coat of Tamiya fine surface primer applied. I'm also waiting on delivery of a moisture filter for my airbrush, then, I can get down to work on those parts and hopefully I'll end up with half-decent results because this will be the first time that I've used an airbrush on a model. Until next time, thanks for looking in and thanks again for the comments: keep them coming. happy building David daffy09 attached the following image(s):

BUILD UPDATE #49
Hi again folks, and welcome to part 49 of the U-96 build. Apologies due here, as my partner and I had relatives from Denmark staying over with us for a week, so didn't get any work done on the sub. Now they are safely back in Copenhagen, things are back to normal and I can resume work. Issue #49 came with 1 brass etched sheet to clad the right-hand bow flood slots above the torpedo compartment, and will be fitted in a couple of weeks (or at least when I've completed the necessary modifications to it to allow for the cutaway mod on the torpedo compartment). Today's work consisted of fitting the plastic cladding parts to the side of the removable deck section. Have to apologise again here as I had a bit of a senior moment and forgot to snap my workflow , but it was a similar operation to cladding the right-hand side a few weeks back, so not a lot missed there. That's it for this one, I'll be back in a day or so with the next update so I can catch up with myself. Thanks for looking in and thank you for the comments.
