Hi Ken like the rigging so far, when I built airfix ships as a kid they came with preformed ratlines which were made from some rubbery material which was almost impossible to glue.have not used the first jig in the pic.The airfix one I have used once on the golden hind I built a few years back it was very confusing to set up but once I got going it was pretty good but you do need the relevant instructions for the ship your building it tell you which numbers on the jig to set your lines to. For some reason the ratlines instructions that came with mine were for a different ship so had to find the right ones on line. This is such a nice build and love the sea effect you have managed. very interested in your view on the loom a line tools as I have heard mixed views on this but I quite like the idea myself. jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Looks really cool with some rigging on, great work Ken

Keep on with it Ken, what you've done so far looks fine. I've never really understood how that Loom a Line works since in reality the shrouds should go from the first set of dead eyes up to the point where the lower mast and middle mast overlap (right above the platform), through the gap and back down to the next dead eye in line. In other words, the first two shrouds are actually one single rope! The rest of the shrouds are then rigged in pairs too, alternating port and starboard. All these rat line formers seem to end up with a bunch of separate threads at the top! I built a few of these old Airfix ships in my youth, the Victory (of course!) , the Wasa and the Cutty Sark. The Wasa was unfortunately lost in action against Mum's vacuum! The worst thing about the rigging on those kits was the slightest over tension and the plastic yards became like longbows, nice graceful arcs! Wooden kits are far more forgiving in that respect! Keep going though, those lines on the bowsprit are tensioned perfectly, better than I remember mine being anyhow! Ken your rigging looks fine to me and your ratlines turned out pretty good too. Don't really see how you can do a refit in the middle of a voyage though. I totally agree with Plymouth 57,I could never figure out how the ratlines were supposed to fit, no Internet in those days. Well I know it's not finished but it's sold, my boss's husband came round to show me his car (some little horrors standing on a bridge lobbed a rock as he drove under and stoved in his drivers pillar and windscreen (the cars only a fortnight old £90,000 worth) he spied it and the Reale and said the Reale was too big for his new seaside house but he would buy the sovriegn. Still got to finish her and I can ask what I want for her, that's actually quite difficult, what is she worth, don't want to get greedy, I have others I intend to build which he may buy so don't want to put him off by over pricing. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Well I wouldn't mention the bikes 3.71 and 3.76 not that I'm bitter or anything, I did sell my Bentley to my boss as well though, and the Reale may well end up in the greenwich maritime museum, I asked if they wanted it and got a reply saying they would love it but the curator of the maritime section is on leave so they can't say if they've room till he's back. I will be glad to get rid of it, it is so big, ive been asked to take it to 3 exhibitions but there is a risk of breaking it each time I take it, and now it may end up in a museum I don't like the idea of moving it, I may make an exception at the wivenhoe exhibition as that is part of my local club and is fairly close. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Unfortunately it does, it's kind of you to say not, wish I had the skills people like you and gandale to mention a few it seems to me it is not possible to make a plastic kit look like a wood built kit, don't get me wrong I am not saying plastic kits are bad, I love them, but you can't make plastic look like wood, I take my hat off to you guys, I just don't have the patience or skill. Quote - "Ken`s the name, modeling`s the game" The building medium is insignificant. You have a flair for the plastic kits and make a damn good job of it. The only thing that matters is the end result and you made some cracking builds recently. Keep up the good work and maybe, just maybe try a small wooden build in the future. I think you`ll be surprised what you can achieve. This build`s another example of your skills and the water effects are really . Keep up the good work.
