I am currently working on Stage 60 (Pack 17), and I've just come to test fit the oil/water heat exchanger to the engine block.

However, I find that the joints on mine do not line up correctly at all. I assumed that I'd assembled the thing incorrectly, but I couldn't work out how I'd made the error, so I went back to the Pack 16 instructions and looked again at the assembly guide.

Bottom left of page 437 are two photos of what the assembled unit should look like, and I assembled mine exactly according to these photos.

However, both these photos show the upper joint mounted at 90° to it's correct orientation. In fact, the angle of the joint should be pointing away from the camera in the circular close-up photo, but it is clearly shown as pointing to the left.

Having assembled these parts according to these photos, I now find that there is no way I can get the upper joint to meet the engine block as it is supposed to. I'm currently trying to disassemble these parts, but as luck would have it the union between them is particularly robust, with relatively huge tabs on the inside of the join...

I think that this is a serious enough error to warrant some sort of free replacement parts for those of us who have already completed Stage 55 according to these photos.

Yes, I accept that the photo at bottom right of the same page, and those on the following page, show the part correctly orientated, but I put mine together using the photos at bottom left of page 437; that is how I had the assembly in my head from the test fit, which was surely the purpose of the test fit after all.

Edit: I have now managed to detach the incorrectly aligned part, but it looks ever so messy...

I noticed that when I built that. I can't remember which way I done it though. I think I'll check it against the engine later to see if it's OK.

I know exactly what you mean as the photos are confusing.
I put mine together without glue a couple of times before I figured out the correct orientation and I also checked Warthogs build to be doubly sure.
Looking at the photos again you have to look at the page upside down to have the part built the correct way!

I also noticed the error when I was doing this step. I looked at the official build diary video to verify the correct orientation.

I made the same mistake. Luckily I managed to prize it apart and then re-glue it the correct way

Gents

Thank you for bringing this to my attention and a note and adjustment of text regarding the image to that part of the assembly has been added in the official build.

It is always best to refer to either the official build diary or the official YouTube build as some of you have done before glueing any parts without any problems.

As stated the photo at the bottom left of page 437 is incorrect but refers to a dry test assembly. Later on the right of page 437 and on page 438 when it comes to glue they are of correct orientation proving that the instructions must be followed to the letter.
