There is a distinct slope on this deck and from what I can see from your work I don't believe you will encounter any problems here. I'd leave the foredeck curved bulkhead as is until you have the round gunports cut out, you can always trim them back later. Your deck main deck level looks about spot on judging by the height of your gunports so no issues there. Keep up the great work and I'll keep following your progress... Regards Alan

G'day Everyone There was no Progress in July 2015, but I moved along a little bit in August 2015 - for which Progress pics are posted below; Working through Issues 47 to 58 inclusive - but excluding cannons, cannon ball racks and buckets - which I shall do later in the piece... * Completed Midships bulwark lining detail both sides... * Set up the model ready for installing the Transom gingerbread by hanging down from the bench - rather like hanging a coat from a coat hook... The point of the prow was only 1cm off the floor but I achieved a nice level horizontal plane to work with... There is an error in the fitting of the gingerbread, but if no one spots it in this Forum I'm happy to leave well alone... * Installed starboard side gallery window gingerbread - no problems here... * The Stern lantern is only dry fitted at this stage as I had a bit of bother fitting the rear half of the lantern to the shaped profile in the arched top of the Transom. The two profiles did not quite match up so I had quite a lot of filing to do to the lantern half. It's fitting not too badly now... * Made up the Ship's Bell. Hung the bell from a rope instead of gluing it to the roof of the housing - looks more realistic... * Did a little R&D in order to elevate the rear edge of the Foredeck (to achieve the 15mm dimension to the top of the curved bulkhead as specified) - should the need arise later on. There is a full thickness (2mm) bamboo strip across the deck behind the curved bulkhead and a wedge shaped bamboo strip down each side to act as guides for laying deck planks across as infill - gradually decreasing in depth to zero as they are laid towards the front edge. The dimension between the 2 deck planks shown is now 15mm - give or take a couple of thou' - but hey - we're not building swiss watches here!!! She look great John, credit to you... .. Looks as if your R&D has produced a workable solution to bring everything back to the correct levels.... You'll know if your modifications are as you suspect when it comes to fitting the all the decorations on the sides, these measurements can turn out to be a little on the tight side. Working from the heights of the bulkheads is a good move... I'm not seeing any real issues with what you are doing..... .. Will be watching to seeing how this progresses....... Regards Alan

looking really nice now with the bling going on,I had the same trouble with the lantern ,ended up filing the side panels with putty and smoothing it out level. She looks a bit scary hanging off the side of the bench like that. I've included a couple of pics below to show how I overcame the little problem with the fitting of the lantern. I made sure the receptor profile in the arch was totally clean of paint, burrs etc and then filed the insert profile of the back panel of the lantern down quite a lot, using a square section needle file... No worries about suspending the ship upside down, mate - safe as houses... And it allowed me to continue my sedentary nature of sitting down on the job... Hi Everyone Progress for August 2015 with pictures posted below. Working through Issues 61 to 65 inclusive, but excluding die cast decorations which will be done later on... * Permanently fitted stern lantern after sorting locating problem... * Painted and fitted side gallery canopies - no problems here... * Made the door and fitted to the forward bulkhead. Unfortunately, the door hinges fret was missing from Issue 41 - there was just a small, empty envelope in the parts pack...  So I've had to back order another copy of issue 41 - just to get the part...  The newsagent is unsure how long it will take to arrive...  * Painted and fitted the six columns to the forward bulkhead. I have painted the 6 ladies as well but will not install them until the door is completed as they may get in the way of things - likewise the little steps... * Midships handrails, cannon balls and racks installed - I'm leaving the powder buckets 'till later on... * Raised the level of the rear edge of the forward deck by the required 3mm to comply with 15mm height specification above the deck of the curved bulkhead - using varying thicknesses of planks across the deck and decreasing to zero at front edge... * Planked and grouted the fore deck using 0.5mm black rigging thread as the caulking medium... * Fitted the Poop deck, then planked both the Quarter deck and Poop deck in the same manner as the Foreward deck...
