Hi guys.
I am looking at getting the photo etch set for my 1:200 Trumpeter Iowa kit.
There are 2 options one is MK.1 designs deluxe set. And the other is Pontos set. Have any of you out there used any of these.
Chris

Although I haven't built the 1/200 Iowa I did have both the MK1 and the Pontos photo etch kits for my 1/350 Yamato.

They were both fantastic sets and I ended up picking the best parts from both, however the MK1 set was the one that had the most etch used from it, so based on that I would say the MK1 etch is the best. I also found the railings far far superior in the MK1 set, whereby it actually looked like drooping chain railings rather than just straight bits of etch.

In terms of brass thickness they are both about the same unlike the much thinner and more flimsy lion roar etch.

Which ever one you end up choosing I'm sure you will not be dissappointed Cool

BigGrin Hi Cris

I have the MK1 1/200 Bismark set and can vouch for its quality, I am at the moment pricing up a Pontos set for a future project and going to the Pontos site you can see what each set provides. Although I have noticed the Pontos stuff has some nice high detail turned brass parts like masts and flagstaffs.

Cheers guys for the info. I have been going through the net while i could and still couldn't work out which one. The MK1 set is great but more expensive. The pontos kit is also great but finding it difficult to get hold of and is the cheaper of the two. If I could get hold of the pontos kit I will get it.

WOW, Blink

Gonna have to be careful with all that etch or you will have the best fed carpet gremlins around.

You`ve got your work cut out with that lot, but will make for a stunning end result.

Good luck
