BUILD UPDATE #51
Thanks Pemberg and Arpurchase for your comments, much appreciated.
Issue #51 came supplied with 1 sheet of brass etch for the port and starboard aft flood slots.
Although the instructions call for fitting the bow PE which came with the 2 previous issues,I am not fitting them at this stage because, as you all know, I am making very slow progress on the torpedo compartment mod, and the MDF and brass will not go on until this work is complete.
The fitting of the aft brass etch went relatively easily by applying thick 'Zap' glue to the mdf parts, clamping and leaving to dry. On this build, they seem to line up perfectly with the cladding of the removable deck section without any adjustment necessary and are a good tight fit against the wooden elements of the hull.

Looking nice David. Your not too far behind me now, i have just received the plastic bow sections, although there is not a lot to do with them at the mo. You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

BUILD UPDATE #52
ONE YEAR DOWN, TWO TO GO!!
I would wish everybody on this build a happy birthday, but I realise that some are further ahead than others, but it's a milestone for this one anyway!
Thank you Pemberg and Riff-raff, your comments give my day an uplift.
Right then, down to business. Issue number 52 came with 2 parts of the wooden framework for the deck which will be used in a few weeks. Just for now, I've cut out the 2 parts - #140 & #141 - cleaned them up and stored them until needed.
The rest of this update is concerned with painting the tops of the middle and transverse frames with matt black paint.
I used Humbrol #33 matt black for the simple reason that I still have a little left in my stock of paint - I'm gradually weaning myself off Humbrol in favour of Vallejo model color and air color because they don't cause me so much grief when air-brushing. Even when thinned sufficiently, Humbrol has a nasty habit of clogging up and I spend more time then I want in the task of cleaning out the air brush.
Back to the job in hand which required only the use of a regular brush anyway, I started at the bow and continued through the removable deck section and the stern end.
Next week sees more deck framework and the painting these plus the 2 parts from this week.

BUILD UPDATE #53
Welcome back to issue #53 of the U-96 build.
Thank you Alan, Martyn and Ian for the feedback, most welcome.
Not much happening in this issue - just a bit of paintwork.
Parts supplied were 2 more pieces of the deck framework (#142 & #143). These were cut out from the sheet and cleaned up, then taking the 2 deck frames from last weeks issue(#52, parts #140 & #141) all 4 parts were painted with Vallejo #169 acrylic Black.
They might need another going over as the first coat was somewhat absorbed by the mdf and the second coat, I thinned a tad too much so the colour isn't as strong as I feel it could to be.
I said there wasn't much so that's it for this one.

BUILD UPDATE #54
Hi friends, it's only been a few days since my last update but since there really is not much to work on, I thought I'd post this one.
Issue #54 came with a sheet of mdf containing the last 2 parts of the deck framework (#144 & #145) although these pieces are not used until the next update.
This issue is primarily concerned with the dry-fitting of the other 4 pieces of deck framework that were previously painted.
Starting with part #140, this was dry-fitted to the stern of the hull, immediately behind the removable deck section.
Secondly, part #141 was dry-fitted to the stern end of the removable deck with a slight gap between it and part #140
Next, moving toward the bow, part #142 was placed on the removable deck section immediately in front of part #141.
Finally, part #143 was dry-fitted to the front end of the hull, immediately in front of the removable deck section.
That completes this update, thanks for looking in and thank you for the comments.

Thanks for the comments Timberwolf.
I sometimes have the same trouble and have to refresh the page a few times before the pictures will open. Sometimes closing the browser and re-opening it again solves the problem.
I use a small program called 'Image Resizer'.
After it's installed, it shows up as another option in 'context menu' when you 'right click' on the original picture file.
It opens up a smaller window where there are several different options for re-sizing. I mostly use the 'small' option.
I find this the easiest way to get my pics onto the forum without the need for typing URL's, etc.

BUILD UPDATE #55
Thanks for the nice comment Andy.
Issue #55 included a laser-cut wooden framework for the base of the conning tower and an etched brass sheet containing parts for the cladding of the stern. These parts will be put aside to be used in a later build update.
This time, the last 2 parts of the deck framework (#144 & #145) are painted and dry-fitted to their respective areas on the hull.
First, the parts were removed from the sheet, given a little clean-up with a needle file and painted matt black using Vallejo #169.
Part #144 was then temporarily seated in it's correct location at the bow end of the removable deck section. A slight gap was left between it and part #143 at the bow, which allows for removal of the centre deck section.
Next, part #145 was dry-fitted to the extreme stern end of the hull leaving an overhanging area, and will form the stern deck end taper when the plastic stern parts arrive and are assembled and fitted.
Finally, after making certain that everything was in it's correct place and seated correctly,all 6 parts of the deck framework were glued into place.
That's it for now until my next consignment of parts in a couple of weeks or so.

BUILD UPDATE #56
Hello again friends and welcome back.
Issue #56 came with a sprue containing 4 plastic mouldings for cladding the stern.
In this update we also used the PE sheet #1238 that was supplied with issue #55.
After cutting the parts from the sprue and cleaning them up, part #146 was cut from the PE sheet and fitted to #83 - which is the movable torpedo tube end cover - was loosely fitted to part #84 after carefully checking the correct orientation of the part.
Finally, the 2 remaining pieces of PE were glued into place in their respective positions in either side of the stern hull mouldings, ready for final assembly and fitting to the hull in the next update.
